Forums - Gaming - Thoughts on getting kicked off after every round in online multiplayer

IMO: Online console gaming sucks. I hate waiting around to play with people online and a lot of the time you can not even find an online match. Local multi-player or system link is so much better.
PC is the best in regards to online gaming.

If you can't find an online match, you're probably playing something unpopular and that's not a console thing, that can happen anywhere.

Also local multiplayer and online multiplayer fill different needs and are not comparable. One cannot split the screen 12 ways and play Deathmatch in Call of Duty locally, the same as how gathering with people online in Wii Sports would not be nearly as fun as all of you being in the same room.

Though CoD5 won't kick you out, there always seems to be some kinda random error that forces me to find a new server anyways.

Maybe it's because you're playing it on PS3. I've played a lot of COD 4 and 5 on 360 and rarely get server issues. I know COD4 has a notorious online multiplaer breaking issue involving many kinds of routers. Mine is affected. I can't play COD4 online. I just get a message saying "Downloading game settings" that never ends. Maybe COD 5 has some problems also. That's more of a technical issue though, not a design choice. What I'm talking about is purposely designing multiplayer around getting kicked off after every round. I just don't get the point.

Nah it has nothing to do with console choice. CoD5 360 is always doing that random error thing that kicks you out and forces you to select another game/server. That and the annoying 'host has ended game' thing that always happens during a game. I'm amazed those 2 things never happen to you as well given how many hours you've put in online.

Oh and while I'm bitching about CoD5 online, why is that about 20% of the time when I'm searching for a new game I invariably get dumped on the losing team in a game that has just ended or is about 1-10 seconds away from ending. That plays havoc with my W/L ratio because I like playing all the different types of game modes on offer so I'm always joining new games and having this happen.

That kind of stuff may happen to me once every 10-15 games. Maybe I'm lucky or that's what you think frequently is. It's not a regular occurence at all for me though.

I'm not really into my W/L ratio so it doesn't really bother me, but I get your point. If I were neurotic about it like you are, it would probably bother me too.

@Jo21-I'm not sure you understand what this topic is about. What I'm talking about cannot happen sometimes, it's a design choice in certain games, so it happens always or never.

Trust me, it's better like that... *remembers his CounterStrike & Half-Life days... missing entire days of school & work... playing 15 hours a day... round after round...*

Agreed, WarHawk and Battlefield are famous for that.

You mean famous for the good version of multiplayer right?

Yep. :P

About once every 5 games one of those 2 things will happen.

Actually I only care about K/D ratio, not W/L ratio, but it's still annyoing that you rack up losses because of a problem with the game and through no fault of your own.

Maybe it's just our general areas. I'm in a pretty populated suburban area in a part of the country where I can get good connections to the US and the UK. Maybe my location has been my lucky penny with Call of Duty.

You need to get on more often and play me in some Call of Duty so I can rape you in it.

in that third online option for motorstorm:pacific rift (I think it's called "custom game") you won't get kicked after a race

Wow, that sounds pretty silly. I haven't had any games that do that, but then again I've not played online much this gen.

ive noticed this alot too and it does infact suck. cod4/5 for me is a good system, basically you can play 3-4 rounds before it makes you find a new server or unless my ps360/internet kick me off after 3-4 rounds. either way i would like atleast a few rounds with the same people before being forced to do anything, although it would be nice to play until you want to leave.

Resistance 2 does this, kicks you back to main menu after every single match, it is annoying.

Stupid design choice.

Yeah I hate it too, and after a coop match you can still talk to all the people in your group but only have the option to press o and re-enter yourself into match-making. Atleast if you go "find" a server for coop or competetive it'll keep you in there while looping the matches over and over, but competetive servers aren't ranked : (

COD4 had it, you'd stay in the party until it disbanded or you left, why would other games do it differently?
