Forums - Sony - "Are Sony's PS3 firmware updates morphing into glorified publicity stunts?"

@Splenda exactly , If i had a 360 and didnt use Net flix, does that make it a useless feature? no, Just not of use to me.

Ah, It's from PC World. That explains things.

But why are PC enthusiasts complaining about updates? =x

I don't mind the constant updating, but I wish we could just download in the background. My gaming time is limited.

It is great how the article mentions all the tiny additions and makes them sound negative but completely ignores the major things, like music playback during games, screenshots, trophies and so forth.

Or the two biggest updates: in-game XMB and DVD/PS1/PS2 upscaling.

I never could understand why people are "happy" about firmware updates that fixes things. They should have gone out the doors patch free.

New features are fine, but no more than twice a year, it confuse the hell out of people that aren't technical.

Then leave the PS3 on when you are watching Tv or going to bed.  All the items will just sit in the downloading tray going one after another.

I think publicity stunt is hyperbolic. It isn't as if Sony has the ability to force anyone to run the story. Which is what I take issue with earlier in the generation I griped about the the Friday virtual console arrivals being reported as news, these firmwares being listed every week, and every Live DLC being reported at launch.

These things just aren't news worthy. Not everything that happens in the world needs to be recited. Just the things that are most relevant to the audience. Anyone genuinely interested could always reference the official site for the run down. In this case its simply bad editing. Part of editing is discarding poor stories in favor of better stories.

I would hardly say it is Sony's fault in how they do things. Those reporting these stories need to practice a little self control. They should probably stop bitching, and stop reporting. I never understood the fascination myself with being on top of every single thing.

uh, because games have always and will always have problems, but now they can be patched.

A lot of people are technical and there's nothing confusing about an update that adds a photo album function.

Developers: Just release it. We'll patch it after the customers beta test for us.
