Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 off to a great start..... METACRITIC score of 97!!!!

The only thing sure is that nobody is sure.

Anyway I don't like the way this kind of threads take, 4 reviews isn't a great thing but metacritic 9.7 is a great thing. Just wait for more reviews and we'll see what happen.

If you don't like killzone 2 make your own review after you play it (The last FPS that I enjoyed was goldeneye).

I know... my english sucks

So we have 3 OPM mags reviewing the game and an unknown site who called Gears of War "a high school attempt at gaming" even though it only got 2 points higher than Gears. How unsurprising. I'll wait for the most unbiased website on earth, GameSpot :)

Can't the game just be THAT good, is it really that hard to believe? Sheesh...

But don't you find it sort of fishy that 3 of the 4 scores are from the same magazine which just so happens to be made by Sony. Sony reviewing a Sony game? Would you expect there to be like 5/10 scores? Obviously not. I'm major excited for this game but you have to be a raging fanboy to think it has to be "really THAT good" based on those reviews.

I expect the game to do really well scores wise but those reviews are as biased as biased gets. At least the UK sector had the balls to mark it as they saw it.

I said it earlier and I'll say it again. PTOM is NOT made by Sony, it's published by Future plc. Future plc has a number of offices, and the PTOM magazines can be viewed as separate entities, as they're each published independant of the other. PTOM US is out of San Francisco with Future US (formerly Imagine), who also happens to do OXM, Nintendo Power, Mac|Life, PC Gamer, and a bunch of others. The same company does the "official" sites for all three consoles, as well as Games Radar.

Where are all the tinfoil hats coming from? Really, it's NOT some vast conspiracy to inflate KZ2 scores! It should be abundantly clear from what little pre-embargo teases IGN, GameSpot, and others have written that the final reviews are going to be very, very high.

And yes, if the game were bad I would expect there to be bad review scores. The last SOCOM, which is as sacred as any franchise comes amongst the Sony loyalists, was scored a 6/10 by the official site.

Way to few reviews still for that number to really matter...

Pre release scores are either by the official company or they got paid off, and if you notice the 2 perfect scores are from official magazines

100
Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)
100
Playstation Official Magazine Australia

Tell me one official magazine that doesnt do this?

You are missing the point, the metacritic score is this high at the moment becuase 2 of the 4 things it has to go on are from official PS magazines, and it will drop

Hopefully not (much), two non-official reviews from small European countries (reviewing the games too early):

576 KByte (Hungary)
Killzone 2 review

Graphics: 5 (out of 5)
Playability: 5 (out of 5)
Lasting Appeal: 4 (out of 5)
Music / sounds: 5 (out of 5)

Overall: 9.7 (out of 10)

"Killzone 2 is one of the most gorgeous and atmospheric FPS ever released, surprassing easily everything the PS3 has to offer. It's easily one of the best games of 2009. What will happen with the franchise in the future? We hope that it will be successful, reaching heights of happines never reached before and bringing a real conclusion to the unfinished saga. When and how it will happen? Only God knows - he likes to be called Guerilla Games nowdays"

GamePlay Magazine (Croatia)
Killzone 2 review

Graphics: 20
Sound: 19
Playability: 19
Longevity: 20
Overall: 20 out of 20

final score description (roughly translated):
"When compared to all other console titles - while on PC Crysis remains only true competitor regarding graphics - Killzone 2 takes every of it's moment to justify it is the first true and pure Next-Gen title in every mean imaginable."

So that's better than the official magazine averages, so far. I hope reviewers have good 7.1 audio setups to do full justice with regard to the full scope of what Killzone 2 provides with regard to its audio.

The words "Official" lead me to believe it has maybe something to do with Sony? Also Future are a publishing company, they don't write the stuff in it nor own the magazines, they just publish them just like Penguin publish books.

The magazines adopt the format of whatever the editor wants them to. If they are a person relying on corporate money to help fund the magazine then they will obviously bend in a certain direction. So it depends totally on the editor. So in terms of judging games from a media analyst perspective i would not quote anything they say in their reviews. If an avid reader such as yourself reads the mags and generally has the same view as the reviews i.e you tend to share the same opinion on the reviews then to you the reviews become valid. But to those who don't they see the Official tag and question if its biased or not. And that is the problem, you never know if it is. If companies like Gamespot/IGN etc.. can be effected by games companies then it makes sense the official ones can too.

From my own general opinion i tend to agree with Eurogamer on reviews. Gamespot and IGN as well as the official obes i tend to disagree with.

Eurogamer and Gamespot I personally regard as some of the most biased and inconsistent sources out there. IGN I consider to be very reliable in general (apart from that awful Super Ruba Dub review they had).

What's with the people calling haters on those who point out that the score will fall?
They are not haters, they are being realistic, and if you don't think the score will drop, even slightly, then you are delirious.
Also, innovation is hardly the focus if you have a game that is "perfecting" gameplay... *cough*GTA4*cough*

Personally, I have no doubt the score will settle at 90+, but that is all I know.

Hyruken, I live 60 miles from Bath where OPSM UK is set and published. The staff writers all work for future publishing as it is one of their own magazines. I have always read OPSM due to their scores are on the whole very unbiased. To insinuate that Future Publishing are only publishers shows you really know little of the magazine. To insinuate they cook their scores proves it. Is gamesradar biased? after all that is the online head of the future publishing gaming beast. They publish mags for all consoles and handhelds. strange that gamesradar's scores are roughly in line with OPSM UK,s.
