Sony isn't the only company cutting jobs.

Unfortunately you're right. However Sony is one of the most troubled companies these days (the only clearly more affected segments I can think of are banks and automakers).

I agree that it's bad, but its never as bad as they make it. Companies are cutting jobs, and Sony is targeted by the media first.

Right, because the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg all hate the Playstation.

Please spare me the media is biased against Sony, because in the business world Sony is a company just like all the others.

I'm just saying it seems that they are biased against Sony, let alone Playstation. Why aren't you seeing tons of other articles pop up about other companies losing jobs? What about microsoft? Weren't they supposed to cut jobs, why didn't we see a thousand articles about that?

Reality has a well known anti-sony bias.

These are some of the cuts that Sony announced last month? It remains to be seen what if any cuts the games division will experience. Things are tough all over. There have been numerous reports that Microsoft will announce 8,000 job cuts tomorrow.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Sony has been overdue for a restructure for a while now though, and I can't help but read the news that Sony is finally shutting down plants in Japan as good and bad news. The bad news is that 2000 people will be losing their jobs in Japan, which is a much bigger deal there then it is here in the west. The good news is that it sounds like Sir Howard Stringer is finally being given control of things from the old Japanese guard at Sony.

Have you noticed how much the newspapers and TV channels talk about the failing banks and automakers? I'm sure you have noticed that they talk about them more than Sony.

Any rational person would conclude that the quantity of reports is proportional to how big the problems are in a company. Somehow you decided to conclude the media is biased against Sony.

Apparently there will be an earnings revision today. I am guessing they will show the impact on each division as they did last time.

Sony Corp (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) lost 1.3 percent after the Nikkei business daily reported it will cut more than 2,000 full-time jobs as it moves manufacturing bases, and that it will announce the plan along with a downward revision to its earnings outlook on Thursday.

yikes, not looking promising for sony. hope they recover.

Does anyone know the time the anouncement will be made?
It will be very intersting (and painful, I'm sure) to see whats going to happen

So we got the press release of the 1.7B loss, is that it? Will we get to find out about the restructuring of the company?
