Forums - Gaming - Ruh-roh... NHL 08 is 60fps on 360 and 30fps on PS3

What's the point of having a game run at 60 fps when your system is RROD?

Its not lazyness duhhh.

For them to be called lazy they first would have to be competent devs that simply choose not to do a good job, and they are not.

They are incompetent mediocre developers.

omg.. Why doesnt sony do something about this?

What can Sony do? Get their mother to call EA's mother?

Badmouth EA? Yeah that'll get EA pumped to put effort in fixing the framerate problem.

Ban EA games from their system? Not only would they lose a lot of games, most importantly they'd lose the ONLY NFL game. This is fairly important since Football is big buisness and a lot of PS3 owners would want an NFL game.

They could help them code as they have done for games in the past.

EA clearly doesn't have the ability to catch up fast enough.

This really sucks, but if its a constant 30FPS it could still run fine, i'll wait for the final reviews before i buy the game.

Facts:

-EA may be huge but like any company it has limited resources.

-Most of these sports games sell mostly in the US.

-The 360 has a huge hardware lead over the PS3 in the US.

-360 owners buy more games per console than PS3 owners.

-These games all sell way better on the 360 than the PS3.

I'm not so sure I'd call those "facts," as that's a loaded word, but certainly "very educated assumptions." In general, I agree wholeheartedly.

Which one of those five points is even disputable as of right now?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

IMO this might hurt Sony but indirectly. Let me explain : if a developer such as EA doesn't do much to polish up their sports games, ergo less complex games, then there's no guarantee that such developers will take the time to create solid titles, let alone quality tripple A titles. Of course that's a very long shot, what i'm talking about. But if I were a Sony exec, I would give a piece of my mind to the developer teams at EA.

BTW, my country's president sucks total ass. End of political provocation.

 Quack Quack, he kicks ass!!!

I see a lot of EA badmouthing and, although they deserve it to a certain extent, I don't think most people realize how difficult it is for them to execute their business plan on these current generation HD consoles ...

Unlike most other developers, EA's business plan is based off of yearly installments of people's favourite games; all of their games have strict deadlines every year which have to be met and (almost) no delay is acceptable. What this means is that the increase in man-power needed to produce an XBox 360 or PS3 game is made up almost entirely by increasing the development team size. As anyone who understands software development methodologies will tell, you the larger a development team gets the less likely it will produce a quality product in the end.

Now, why are the XBox 360 versions 'Better'?

I still stand by my assumption that Microsoft is helping EA produce the game as much as EA will let them; by spending less than $1 Million per year Microsoft can ensure that every EA team working on an XBox 360 product has access to a team of Uber-Guru XBox 360 engineers. Microsoft has access to engineers who helped develop the XBox 360 and designed all of the SDK examples that the developers at EA used to lear about the system; these people can look at the instructions and data structures that EA is using and suggest changes that will give amazing performance gains.

Why isn't Sony helping?

I belive Sony isn't helping on the same level as Microsoft because it has been nearly a decade since Sony had to lift a finger to attract any developer; by 1998 the Playstation was so dominant that it didn't need to be sold to developers anymore, and the PS2 sold so well out of the gate developers would kill their grandma to develop games for it. Right now I have the feeling that Sony believes it doesn't have to attract developers (or encourage them to produce better games) because they will eventually just "See the Light" and start focusing their efforts on the PS3; at the same time I believe they have the same feeling about gamers.

didn't legend say that 2K has the same problem ???

and for people who said that MS couldn't buy EA that's totally false... MS is doing 17 time the revenue of EA and that's irrelevant revenue means nothing... you have to look at profit and MS is doing 59 time the profit of EA.... the only problem is EA is certainly not for sale.... and MS is certainly not paying them to do a bad job on PS3 that's totally illegal to do that... you can buy rights.... you can't bribe a company to fuck up a game on the concurrent console....

honestly I don't think it will change a lot anyway... I'm not sure a lot of sports fan are aware of that.... the only way it could hurt it's if the media were starting to report it in the news or else... and I don't see that happening... or if MS starts doing comparative commercial on TV and I'm not sure it would be legal as it is a 3rd party game...

They try really hard to turn current and future users of PS3 off... If someone is going to lose some serious money on this crap it's EA...

I am getting more pissed at EA every day. I can't understand why so much of their software sucks - when is the last time they put out something AWESOME - polish and with no bugs? There are effectively the "biggest" developer in the world - in terms of number of developers, cash, etc...

Remind me of M$ (a few years back at least), when everything had more incremental more features - and 10x the bugs.

Not getting any more of my money, until they put out something good :<
