DivX not happy with Microsoft over lack of support from Xbox

DivX has revealed that it is not too happy with Microsoft over its lack of DivX support for the Xbox 360. Prior to that they noted that when it comes to DivX branding they have had a time with MS.

Quote:
"When it comes to DivX branding, we have had a hard time with Microsoft. Obviously we would love for some sort of partnership to happen.

"Currently, Microsoft does support DivX, which is fantastic, but the company has brought in some third-party support for the Xbox 360, and we are not very happy with that."

I thought MS said the DivX support on the 360 was official?

Sorry if already posted.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

They aren't happy that Microsoft does not pay them a licensing fee to use the DIVX brand name on stuff. They use a more open source way i believe to support it

That is kinda odd.

So to MS, Netflix > DivX?

Interesting..

Divx has a long history with MS. Mainly stealing code from MS to make Divx.

@Seraphic

Pretty much PS3 is the only console of the two that can play pretty much all forms of DivX files.

360 still has numerous problems with various file extensions. I think one of the more common ones people complain about is the .mkv.

Supposedly from what I heard MS will not support it because they sell HD movies on the marketplace. PS3 from what I know does support .mkv.

.MKV I think is the HD quality DivX files. I could be wrong.

Yes, but now DivX wants MS to buy it back.

Sounds like they took a page straight outta MS's book of dirty little tricks.  Having DivX is a nice feature for watching movies though.  Its a pretty standard format for torrents and such these days.

Lol yes.  I'm pretty sure thats the driving force behind its adoption actually. I wonder what percentage of computer literate people don't "borrow" movies online?
