Like any religion secular humanists have been organized for a long time and are the driving force behind campaigns like the Atheist Bus Campaign and others which advocate a naturalist world view and separation of church and state.

Yeah, sure. Maybe not the one that's in the Bible, but there's definitely too much poetry in everything for all to be just a coincidence.

You are right. The world is far from being perfect, or even good.

But, it doesn't mean people choosing an optimistic afterlife is a bad thing, even if, by your account, it is a lie or false.

But, for many people, they are convinced their faith is true. I know, other people of other faiths are also 'sure', but that's not the point.
Even I will admit it's hard to believe in anything when humans are capable of so much, and there's a good possibility extraterrestrials do exist.

im an atheist due to sccience offsetting all of religion. In my eyes religion is just what people believe so they have an afterlife. It is purely a tool to quell the fear of death. Every one knows through science how human came into being and that the bible was written at a time when there was no scientific hypthosis to understand how we came into existence. It was purely a bunch of "relatively" clever guys who thought up a higher being and/or God.

I believe in some higher power/God- but I have a strong hatred for organized religion. To me, I believe that something must have made the Big Bang- something beyond human comprehension. But I think that while many of the lessons taught in the Bible are good individual moral guides, some of the stories in there are a little far fetched. (Ex. Adam living to be several hundred years old)

I'm an agnostic and and hoping for some sort of recarnation/nirvana situation after death. I'm not realy getting my hopes up tho and will contune to make my life and the lives of those around me as good as possible.

I think when I die thats it. My consciousness will be gone... my body will slowly revert but my mind will be dead. Forever. Gone. Pwoof. I think there is a very small possibility of an afterlife but it isn't likely.
I know that the above is true, and I also believe that if humans were to fully wrap their heads around that idea they would kill themselves. We are motivated to have a purpose.. and the knowledge that there is no purpose and that your existence is going to end in x year and declining would drive people insane... but that idea is too frightening to accept.
