Forums - Website Topics - Top Myths that confuse noobs to VGChartz - read this if your new!

I feel we should be making a list of misconceptions that are out and about that confuses people about Vgchart numbers. I can think of only 3 big ones... feel free to add more.

#1 - Microsoft announced they sold 10.4 million consoles back in December
That is true, Microsoft announced that they sold 10.4 million consoles to retailers. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo do not have access to sales figures from retail stores, that's why companies like NPD exist.

#2 - Sony announced they sold 4.28 million consoles as of June 30th
Same as Myth #1, Sony is announcing units shipped/sold to retailers, not customers

#3 - Sony has announced that they now report sold instead of shipped
Sony used to announced units produced and shipped to Sony warehouses. They now report units sold/shipped to retailers.

Around the Network

-The "Z" at the end of the title.
-People compare VGChartz North American numbers to NPD US numbers, not realizing that VGC numbers include Canada
-Other sites like Nexgenwars and konsole wars being so ridiculous
-The fact that the comparison graphs don't include "others" numbers for older consoles
-The whole PSP sold/shipped thing
-The fact that this page (http://vgchartz.com/worldcons.php) is out-dated, and says "Worldwide Hardware Shipments" in the title, but "All figures are in millions of units sold" at the bottom. I think this one should be fixed.

how about "PS3 is doing as well as PS2 if you align the launches"

which doesn't take into account how late the PS2 launched in Europe and America.
