Interesting. Microsoft published the first ME. I can't wait to see the legal wrangling that will happen over that one.

If the first ME is coming to the PS3, that's news to me.

EA owns the Mass Effect IP so there would be no legal problems

But MS funded and published the first game. I wonder how this would work.

MS funded BIOWARE and thus if Bioware was a solo company there might be issues.  However bioware is now part of EA.  EA has no such agreement or history with MS and is thus free to do whatever it wants.

Additionally, due to the Euro in large part, the PS3 has been more profitable for EA then the 360 (since any sale in Europe is worth between 1.3x and 1.5x what an American sale is).  Someone posted their balance sheet here previously but sure if you're interested you can look it up.  EA has absolutely no interest in screwing over the PS3 and are not at all a MS centered developer (as Bioware was when on its own, KOTOR, JE ect).

Chance of ME2 and later being on PS3 is around 85% IMO, ME1 on PS3 at least 75%.  It's just money on the table if they don't do it and EA can't afford to leave money on the table especially to benefit MS who EA is no friend to.

And for the few who made the arguement that somehow the PS3 version would hold back the quality of the 360 version, given the DVD/Blu Ray divide and power divide both in the PS3's favor I seriously doubt that arguement holds any water at all.

100% inaccurate. EA is legally bound to uphold any and all contracts negotiated by BioWare. If there was a contract in place, EA will have to uphold it. In fact, EA had to negotiate publishing rights with MS for the PC version of Mass Effect.

It's not as if a company can buy up another company and then ignore said company's debt, leaving all bills unpaid because "they didn't buy those products". This is the same thing.

With that said, I expect ME2 to be multiplatform.

Well, mass effect aside, if mass effect 2 comes out on the ps3 the problem I see is that you'll have to start a fresh profile or w/e and not continue with the same guy you used in the first one and subsequently your choices from the 1st game won't carry over to the 2nd game.

Being a mass effect fan I'd hate to play mass effect 2 without using the same guy I used in the first mass effect. But I'm sure bioware are making the sequel with it not being a necessity that you've played the first otherwise they'd be alienating potential new comers to the series. I don't think they can just expect that only people who bough mass effect will buy the sequel...but oh well, wait till March to see if anything substantiates.

so i came back here from last night and went to Kotaku and saw an article

THERE IS A NEW MASS EFFECT RE-RELEASE COMING OUT!!!

Except that it is 360 exsclusive and contains the Bring Down the Sky DLC as well as a bonus disc with documentaries and stuff for only 20 bucks.

Wow how you 360 PS3 fanboys want MGS4 ME to go multiplat <_<

did you notice who is the publsiher this time?

yup it's EA,,,they can now port this version instead of the original version just like the Ninja gaiden sigma.

it's not for sure but it's possible.

the source(if we assume that it's credible) even says that ME1 on PS3 is likely not 100% yet but ME2 and 3 are multiplat

Wouldn't be suprised if it does come to the ps3. But then again, wouldn't be suprised if it doesn't. I'm not that interested anyways.

yeah i know but you'd think if they planned on porting ME 1 to PS3 they'd be spending time working on that instead of more time making another (this will be the 3rd) exsclusive version for the 360.  Not saying they won't port ME 1 just it doesn't make sense to continue to make new versions for 360 if they were spending time porting to ps3.

Good luck with that, Pig.  I tried the same a couple of posts up and I don't think anyone believes it.  The make-believe land of "EA can do whatever it wants" will be the prevailing belief without regard to pre-existing, legally-enforceable contracts.

BUT, as you said, EA is a cash whore.  They will milk every IP for everything it is worth.  I'm sure they'll find a way to go multi-plat with ME2 and ME3.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

I think you're kind of ignroing the fact that BioWare have said themselves that they could make a PS3 version of the game if they wanted too, which means that there aren't any legal roadblocks.

This fact has been quoted several times in this thread already.

and again im glad i bought a 360 instead of waiting for sony to make a successor to my ps2.

all i wanted was biowares new one, and oblivion.

cant put a price on waiting an extra year

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.
