Forums - Sony - 2009: Will the PSP strike back in the west?

Hmm, so you guys believe that the DS is blue ocean targetted, due to Brain Age and Nintendogs? Those titles are the reason its sold more nearly 60M more units than the PSP? Is there a "DS Fit" and "DS Sports" I missed out on, too?

Hmm. I can't say I'm convinced.

I'm not saying the DS wouldn't have sold this amount anyway (not that it has stopped, on the contrary) without being more blue-ocean than the previous Nintendo handhelds, but look at the top selling DS software:

There's really all kinds of games, and of course the ones you mentioned are the most important in this regard.

MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Well PSP has no chance of a comeback, its a damn good console yet its slowly dying in the West (just look at the shelves in shops lol), and gets no major 3rd party western support, even Sony 1st party does not appear on it often. Hardware sales remain quite good overall, but software sells only in Japan.

PSP2 in 2009? I dont think there is much point, not untill PSP dies in Japan, plus there is no guarantee that there will be much interest from publishers, many have initially supported the handheld because of the popularity of PS2 but now the situation is different, and DS will always remain safer option.

Plus , PSP is still pretty powerful for a handheld, and releasing something ever more powerful will make it ridicilously expensive (and Sony did release something real expensive this gen, and we all now how it end up) and new SOny handheld for lets say 200$ would have to compete with DS which is filled with games, and its cheaper.

I think PSP is as good as Sony will ever do in handheld market, and they should try to increase support.

Really? I'm not sure how EBA appealed to anyone but the traditional gamer.
