Forums - Gaming - Starcraft II Versus Halo Wars

I don't care about any of these, what I want is Dawn of War 2 !

Around the Network

is this a joke?

starcraft for sure.

I believe that numbers of people on battle.net for starcraft is less then for warcraft III by a substantial margin. However, I dont know about Iccup players. Warcraft III on Iccup has yet to take off, but starcraft is thriving over there, this is partly due to warcraft being new to the site, and having better Battle.net support. But over all, battle.net + iccup, I'm not certian what game has more players. Both have healthy communities and strong professional gaming communities tho.

The AoE series is a different animal. The reason for much of Blizzards success is the incredible balance in Starcraft and Warcraft III. AoE has never achieved that. That balance is why starcraft and warcraft III are so great. Personally, I play AOE III, Starcraft, and warcraft III, and I enjoy all of them immensly. The lure of the AoE series is the incredible diversity of "civilizations" especially in AoE III.

Also, for those who think that Starcraft is so incredibly better than the AOE series. AOE 2 is at 92% and Starcraft is at 93% on GameRankings.

GameRanking means very little when you consider how each have stood the test of time. Starcraft, up until recently, was still widely played online. It is also mentioned in several 'best games of all time' lists because of that very reason.

Undoubtedly, both are great games, but Starcraft stuck around longer for a reason.

That's because there was no sequel to steal away Starcraft's fans.  :P

Age fans are now divided between Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology (where I fall), and Age of Empires III.  The Age of Empires series (not including Mythology, from what I understand), has thus far sold over 20 million units.

Bah! Excuses

But I would think that WCIII shared much of the same fanbase as SC although it came out years afterward (just like different iterations of AOE). Still, people play Starcraft much more than they do Warcraft III (assumption, but I think it's a pretty safe one).

A quick login shows me that far more people are playing WCIII and expansion then they are SC and expasion. Also WCIII>SC.

How many players are logged on and how many are playing WCIII and SC at any given moment?

Westwood Studies is now EA, so it is now Westwood Studios EA ftl!

@ staude: if you were only referring to the early days, then they had a shot, but now, not at all (unfortunately). RA1 en C&C were absolutely fabulous ^^

I am disappointed that they are releasing only one campaign at a time. So you gotta buy 3 freaking games total for SC2 to get all the race campaigns. I swear Blizzard is fucking things up lately. They probably realized it would only piss off a few people and those people would probably still buy the game anyways. You get to play all 3 races online but only 1 freaking race for campaign. I might just sit this one out and say fuck it.  This is from a long time loyal Blizzard fan.

@ Seth: i was not amused either, but if they are fleshing out each campaign to the length of the entire first SC-game, then I can live with it (and they have already said that each game contains some 30 missions, which comes rather close to SC 1)

@papflesje, Yea you are right about the 30 or so missions. If they were only like 10-20 missions then I think there would be more of an outrage. I'd be more warm to idea of just buying one add on instead of 2. I am just a little pissed about it but I will probably buy it anyways.

(I bought 2 add ons for Civ 3 so I don't have too much room to talk now that I think about it)
