Forums - Nintendo - Wii Lan Adapter

since my wireless router has so much security crap on it, nothing can connect to it wirelessly, but it works with wired connections and I was thinking about getting the lan adapter for my Wii, but i looked it up and it sounded like you're supposed to connect the lan adapter to your PC and then it goes to the internet from there, but I thought you just plugged an ethernet cable into it and you're good to go. Can someone please clear this up for me?

My Wii lan adapter is connected to the Wii via USB and directly to the router via ethernet cable. No PC in-between.

Ok Thanks

Hey Spartan
It sounds like you were looking at the wii wireless adapter
This is a usb dongle that plugs into your PC and sets up a nice wireless connection for your wii to connect to. It works pretty well if you don't already have a wireless connection.

However I will warn you that I got the wired usb dongle that plugs into the Wii and it gave me problems. I noticed that my connection would drop out after some time. This may have been related to the switch i was plugged into but I just went back to wireless. just an fyi ;)

I have the Wii lan adapter. Plugs in to the USB port and then you plug the network cable in to it. Works great and was 19.99 (3rd party)

You have to be very careful with those 3rd party ones, though. I got one (Sabrent) and the Wii refuses to detect the internet connection through it

Of course, the problem with the Nintendo branded one is that it's so damn expensive

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Its funny that everyone ripps on MS for not including Wifi in their system.

I find that Nintendo is just as guilty here as LAN is the only way I do online gaming.

Wonder what study nintendo did that told them that people don't want LAN ports on their system? I can't imagine it being a cost issue as they are rediculously cheap.
