Forums - Sony - 2005 E3 target renders for PS3 vs now

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1JOxxOhhTY

This is a comparison of then and now.  Hype not equaled, however, some things have gotten close.  Motorstorm is the worst offender falling short.  It is still a fun game, and worth own if you have a PS3, and like offroad racing.  Looks decent to.  But doesn't match what came up in E3 2005.  KZ2 apparently looks good in its own right, but takes a different direction from the trailer.  Much darker, and less draw distance.  More dynamic lighting added.

Anyhow, that YouTube clip is worth noting.  People can find the Spiderman-Gran Turismo mix for further comparisons.

I don't think todays systems are capable of doing as good of a render of Al Bundy as you have in your signature.  A breakthrough in console gaming is when the rendering of Al Bundy would be nailed.  Even Pixar isn't there yet.

I also own a Wii and PS3.  It just happens that I have the 360 gamer tag in the bottom of my profile.

They should have used Motorstorm Pacific Rift and Resistance 2 since they talk about how it looks "two years later" Should have also used the review build of kz2 and not the preview build concidering the review build was even better.

Even so they all did a great job.

Ps Draw distance is huge if you look at the "walkthrough" from e3 2007 you'll see him pausing and moving around in the city in real time from the sky. Large draw distance

The impression I am getting from KZ2 is that dust and darkness is being used to reduce the level of rendering needed for draw distance. They also, in the redo of the 2005 trailer, has there be more clouds in the sky, so it concealed more.

As for using Pacific Rim, well, one can look up multiple gameplay clips on Youtube here:

I will let people pick and choose rather than add my own spin.  I am of the belief that, while they look good, they don't approximate what you see in the 2005 Motorstorm target render.

I have the games (not killzone 2 but watch the video i was talking about. It might be true but it's clever atmosphere. In all honesty killzone 2 has a far better atmosphere now than it did in the e3 2005 teaser)

And pacific rift looks really great. About as good as the teaser with the exception of fluidity.
