Forums - Sales - THE GAP - PS3 can't catch the XBOX360 - pure mathematics

Oo hit a few nerves have I, already shown it has gone down to 135k, without Killzone 2 I wonder how low it would be right now?

perhaps the OP should look at this:

Yes, Sony plans to use time travel to align sales.

my point is that; first of all, the PS3 is selling better than the 360 had. Secondly, the PS3 will have a longer shelf-life, meaning that eventually the PS3 will overtake the 360

You can't compare different points in time its ridiculous. The fact the 360 has only extended its lead over christmas means nothing?

Why do people always assume that when a new gen starts the winner of the last gen automatically starts as the leader? The slate is wiped clean, you can not lose your user base, you can only build it. Fair play to all three company's as they have managed to do this. Domination would be to overtake the wii, very unlikely but i would never say impossible. Death would be the end of, as in the xbox. to use the word in any other way would be playing to gallery.

assumption is the mother of all f**k ups

The gap is likely to be much lower than expected because of the 360 high failure rate.

Otherwise, why do multiplats sell better on PS3 (the dooooomed console ^^) than on 360 these day ? (RE5, SF4)

If as an average people buy 2 Xbox 360, it will make only 1 software sale, and that's even before 360 piracy. That's a lot of money lost for Microsoft. It's quite hilarious to read multiple Sony is doomed articles every day when Sony just sold 600k machines in the US last month (PS2/PS3/PSP) and when PS3 outsold 360 if you take hardware sold worldwide from launch.

But still they made a profit last quarter while SONY lost tons of money

Attach rate is higher on the 360 and software is almost 2:1.

Attach rate and sale numbers are not the same.

its total sales divides by consoles.

I was surprise to see SF4:

360 sold 450k (there are 17 million consoles)

ps3 sold 403k (there are 8 million consoles)

We should stop with the 'attach rates' bullcrap. Attach rates typically grow when you have less new console buys since the new owners start with owning 1 or 2 games, not 10... So basically it can be good for software or bad for hardware. It means nothing, since we don't know exactly which one of those two meanings is true. Advantage : you can make it say whatever you want. it's useless except in MS PR flamebait speeches that greenturd loves so much. Sony and MS win money with sales, not with 'attach rates'. Sony just sold 700k Playstation consoles (2+3+PSP) in the US in one month, so they're doing really fine, even more Worldwide or in software sales when they're definitely on par with MS. That's why the 12 year old MS fanboys 'Sony is dooooomed' threads are so funny. They want their PS3 so much but mommy doesn't want to pay, so all they can do is trying to hate. Love and hate are so close, the opposite of love is indifference. If they didn't want the PS3, you wouldn't see any thread about it (example : the Wii).

Are you sure you dont work as a SONY PR? Using the whole Playstation family to compare to the 360 is just pathetic. Also how can you say SONY is doing fine?? All three of their products are last, they lost tons of money, and went from 70% to 20% in market share??

wow, ps3 fanboys normally stay away from threads like this and just hope and prey that the topic will go away a.s.a.p. (i.e. 360 fans due to there not been as many will lose interest in the thread)

I have to give props to the ps3 fans who have come to defend their machine and not hidden away like some others.

Keep posting 360 fans, just like ps3 fans do when its a 360 is doomed topic.

I'll be back later to give this thread a bump (Somthing i know certain ps3 fans specialise in)

The sony fans seem to have vanished since the last four posts... no getting away from the fact that sales numbers taken from the day the PS3 launched still show it dead last and falling further behind every day.

The aligned launch thing is a red herring.

it isn't a red herring, it's the fairest way to compare the two. By the time the ps3 launched, the 360 had a larger games library meaning more sales.

Truth is.......... Going from First to Last in only ONE generation is simply not good enough on sonys part.
