Yes, there are hard limits about what a hardware can do, but those ps3 exclusives are still 30fps (sans gt5, but that's a driving game), render at 720 instead of 1080, and as a whole don't appear to be the signs of... how to call it... higher ceilings.

You'd be surprised what people can do with enough talent, obsession, and time. I once saw a real-time 3-D air flow simulation by these two Russians on a pentium 1 which was on par with what people were doing on a p4. Sure it was so optimized for their exact configuration that it probably couldn't be ported to any other computer in the world, but who would have thought that was even possible.

You know, games look pretty much even on both, play well on both, and both are less powerful than PCs but cost less. Can't we leave it at that and just play games?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

That's my whole point, the ace looks of these late ps3 exclusives is the result of precisely that.

The console itself might not necessarily have an edge itself, the edge is that sony took a lot of right decisions and one of those decisions was securing some of the most talented, obsessive workaholics out there. And the results are proof, the games look and play beautifuly.

@ Bitmap

You still raving on...lol...get over it man

Get over what? you got all emo about it and sidetracked the whole discussion?

It's fun you are getting upset all about it... coming back to the thread after you already claimed you'd leave it...

It looks you, atleast, can't get over it at all.

I'm leaving this conversation on that note, because you turned my initial point into a PS3 > 360 debate which it never was in the first place...
Good day bud...

Five posts later and you are still here! So it was a device to get the last word.

Are you really that petty?

Acting all mature "it's like 1st grade", "get over it"... yeah, you did not get over it.

So you know, going all off-topic is a bannable offense here, so you better get back to the topic or mods might start to care about it.

Your point? Gears 2 looks better than UT3... the characters look pretty good in UT3, but look at the crappy ground textures in that second screenshot. It's clearly using the older "everything shiny" version of Unreal Engine where as Gears 2 has the more realistic version.

If you are posting UT3, again I ask, what's your point? Are you going to compare the PS3 version to the 360 version or something?

gears 2 can be done on the ps3, UT3 isn't a hardware pusher for the ps3 either.

Your point? There is absolutely no engine on PS3 that cant be done on 360. next statement please.

Just to show how laughable your screenshots are. The followong is ingame Gears 2. Look at the texture diffenrence Gears 2 >> Uncharted, MGS4 and UT3 easily.

Enough said really.

you said ram it's problem? hell both have 512mb available. and yes cell can handle gears 2 , prove me it can't.

i wanna see forza running like GT5 in 1080p 60fps.

also 360 cant do x16AA. those pics are cutscences or retouched.

LOL. Obviously you havent played Gears 2. None of those are from cutscenes. They are ingame shots. Thats what it looks like in HD. Why do you think I laugh so hard when people try and talk it down. It's so clear it's currently top it's not even funny. Couple that with the fact that Gears 2 is doing so much more than Uncharted or MGS4 onscreen, that it really is an amazing experience. MGS4 and Uncharted are great games but, After playing Gears 2 is was great to see what games can look like this gen on console.

Also I'm sure Forza 3 will look double Forza 2. So I have no doubt it will compete with GT5 graphically.

You honestly think Gears 2 look better than MGS4? or better yet killzone 2? you sir has got some serious serious fanboyism that engine they use for gears is crap they look like lil plastic soldiers like seriously.....MGS4 running on HD equals on touched in terms of games released.....you have to be one of those 17 yr old fanboys that would stick with 360 no matter what even though they know in there heart that they are wrong

and now your saying Forza 3 is going to compete with GT5?? GT5 has been in development for a very very very long time topping killzone 2

Currently waiting on : killzone 2 and everything else after it..day one purchase baby

Yeah, the UE3 engine has that nasty plastic shine all over everythig, it's the trademark... unfortunately because it's spread quite a bit there's many games out there looking like that. On top of it is intended to be a do-it-all multiplatform engine, so it is inherently less efficient than the custom made and platform specific engines games like MGS4 use.

About Forza 3... well, the most reasonable think to expect would be an upgrade to the existing engine. There was a rumor floating around some time ago that they basically released the Forza 1 engine adjusted and updated for the new tech with some plugs from Rare while working on a different engine that was to power Forza 3; I find this unlikely tho.

Bitmap's point is that there is no way to make an apples-to-apples comparison between exclusives of two systems. Two different games will involve different design decisions (including compromises for hardware constraints), different budgets for models and textures, and different art direction.

You guys are largely comparing these screenshots on the quality of their art assets. It's like you're comparing oil paintings to watercolor paintings and you're saying that because the best painting you've ever seen was an oil painting, that oil paints are technically superior to watercolor paints. You're confusing the measure of the artist with the measure of the medium.

The games that are being produced EXCLUSIVELY on today's consoles, regardless of budget and talent, still require the current gen hardware, this is common knowledge we're talking about bro. Now, do you really think that a 360 or a PS3 game such as Killzone 2 or Gears 2 could be reproduced IN THE SAME FORM on PS2 or Dreamcast? No matter the budget, talent, magic potion etc, etc... it could NOT be done. This was point from the beginning. My point was quite simple, this generation's hardware is responsible for Killzone 2, Gears 2, Mass Effect and such and such besides obviously the talent, and budget, yes those still are a part. But this was never supposed to be a debate, at least not from me, about PS3>360, or 360>PS3. You misunderstood me, which I understand that now. However, in the future just read closer to the point, my post point is simple bro, it wasn't about who's better, or whatever. I tend to not fight about that because either system, as far as I'm concerned, still can out do the other at some point. Spec wars are great, but don't usually end well. Hopefully this clears up any further complications.

Of course ps2/dreamcast couldn't do UE3 games. But there's a difference between higher ceilings availabe through hardware and the kind of visual boon that comes with great devlopment craft.

Yeah, spec wars never end well. I loathe how they've become a common topic these days.

@non sequor: your last line there is really good. I wish could put things forward in such a way.

i think ps3 is much powerful, but 360 is a good machine.
so dont worry about.
