Forums - Sony - Need Hard Drive Help

Ok I have a 60gig PS3, I had put in a 160gig in it, but took it out for Laptop and put back the 60gig.

Now my friend gave me a 120gig for free and I want to put it in..

Actually I put it in, works great, formatted and all.. but...

How do I take the info and saves from the old 60gig onto the New 120gig?

Do I put a memory card into the PS3's card slot reader and do a backup to that memory card? (the most I have is a 2gig Duo)

I wanted to put everything I had from the pics, downloads, saves, and such and put them all on the New drive..

So whats the best way to do this the way I stated above or some other method?

Thanks in advance~

I plugged in an external usb hard drive and backed up the PS3 to it. Then I restored to the new hardrive. It takes some time depending upon the amount of data. The backup/restore functions are available off of the system icon. It will copy everything including demos.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Delete all your demos and stuff that takes up tons of space then backup.

The actual save files don't take much space at all, but I think I read somewhere that it tries to back up everything.

Use a USB device (stick or HDD) backup your saves. Don't worry about the demos and stuff you can DL everything again including PSN purchases.

Now Playing: Crysis 2

Last Finished: BulletStorm

Online IDs: PSN: computermaximus, XBL: computermaximus

Use external USB drive back-up on it put in the new 120gb and restore the files back on it.

You can also buy an external HD case and put the 60 gig in it, then when you can just hook up your "new" external HD and copy everything over. External HD cases are pretty cheap, you can get one at a good electronics store for about $30.

OS on your PC means nothing, can your PS3 see your PC through the Media server option?
