The engine is pretty good so I think you shouldn't have any issues.
They knew its not the most polygon intensive engine out there so they went nuts with textures and particle fx... The visual filter they used (in the demo atleast) will take you a bit to get used to. But it makes sense with the nuke going off and you wearing a helmet...

WHAT?! Nukes? SHUSH! But yeah, FEAR1 was all about the effects, boy were those effects badass. I don't look at fucking shadows or polygons when shooting, but I do see what my bullets hit.
