Apparently improved network support may be on the way, and new hardware (obviously, it's been 4 years in America in March, 5 in JP in December).

What's in store for PSP in the future? Sony's latest survey may hold some clues

An ESPN subscription for your handheld? How about Purple PSP units? These are just some of the ideas being thrown around in Sony's latest survey regarding PSP. While surveys are never an indication of what is truly in the works, they're usually more of an indication of what companies are open to pursuing if interest be high enough and to test if consumers are digging the competition.

With that in mind, it's not surprising to hear that one of the questions in the survey asked: How likely would you be to buy a new PSP if the version had... followed by such options as Bluetooth, touch screens and an internal hard drive. iPhone much? The survey also asked about interest in regards to bringing other PlayStation Network features over to the PSP such as Trophies, Home and Friend's Lists. The past hasn't been forgotten either, it seems Sony is still gauging interest for the GPS and TV Turner peripheral as well.

Now that we know a bit about some of the thoughts Sony might be playing around with, it's a bit saddening to think that some of this -- if not most, might never come true. Well I dont own a PSP but I think its good of Sony to ask what they want, does the "touchscreen" hint at anything though?

I doubt however that PSP users would want a touchscreen because in that case theyd buy a DS mostly

Podcast beyond mentioned that there is a plan to add a second thumb stick, but then again I couldn't tell if they were joking or not.

well, we'll probably have a new(er) screen within the next 3-5 years.

OLED-based screens are making some headway into phones, GPS devices, and handheld computers already, and they offer the benefit of a more vibrant colorful picture, thinner screen (less clunky device), less power usage as well as the widely held thought that they will eventually be cheaper than similar LCD screens currently in use.

Here is my big list from most important to less important;

3G - So I can remote Play to PS3 from anywhere, and make phone calls/ connect to PSN. This would make PSP a truly portable device.
Music Download Servive - With this and 3G I can purchase a song anytime anywhere, and really helps make an impulse purchase.

In Game XMB (music) - The current models have 64MB of RAM. Only 32 can be used in-game, why not have XMB access at all times?

@KBG29 - Yeah I agree that the phone thing might be a possibility.....with the size and prices of chips coming down, sony might be able to squeeze a few extra inside, and more electronic guts to put the phone stuff in. If sony could do that, then it would kill the DS off.
