Forums - Sony - Killzone 2 to change Expectations for PS3 Developers?

We should hope that Killzone 2 does not change people's expectations from developers... Not all developers should be expected to spend 4 years making a high-budget game while having some of the best technical engineers working on it. It's just not feasible and it would lead to more pain in the gaming business, and an alienation of the PS3 among developers.

Will Killzone 3 take 4 years?

Maybe not, but that would be because they now have a great engine to work from... Not all developers have that luxury, unless Guerilla Games becomes an engine vendor like Epic.

yes 09 will see a little bit a of diff. between the 2 with K2, U2, Heavy Rain, and possibility of GOW3 and GT5

I hope it will open other devs. eyes but i doubt it there to lazy

once you know how to grasp a system its very easy for others to learn from that. happened with the ps2 and look at it, after a couple of years games just went into overdrive with how good they became.

Sony's first party will have access to the Engine. Nowadays its mostly first party that are the exclusives. And of course development costs will go down if you use this engine and it will be less time consuming. And also to get that much more outta the Ps3, it will take less and less work as time goes on and developers fully utilise the Ps3 coding and make it more effiecent

Seeing as how this is one of the most expensive games ever made, I doubt it, most developers actually want to make a. Profit. Not lose tons of it.

The obvious question is: what about 3rd party developers? Aren't development costs already high enough?

Anyway, this is probably not going to be a problem unless a great portion of PS3 owners are graphics whores.

Read above post. That says something about how ambitious sony were tho. They are prepared to lose money on this game to make it the best they can at this point in time, don't you think?

No, they now have all the parts they need to start working on the next one.  I would see it taking 2 years, maybe 3.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

Seeing as 3rd parties arent exclusive they have to got the Lowest common denominator route, so that point is moot. Its the Exclusives that we will see the difference.

If this generation has proven anything, it's that graphics and power do not lead to the most popular and beloved console. Hardcore gamers keep holding onto the belief that violent games with beautiful graphics will change the fate of a console. But the market has changed, and these type of games no longer have the influence they used to have.

Sure, there are some successes here and there, but overall these type of hyped games won't lead to what is wished for. When you look at the hardcore releases, they get good sales fairly often. But all too often these large software sales do not equate to high hardware sales. I came to realize this when GTA IV was released and noticed that the trend has continued since then with the exception being what happened with MGS4.
