Forums - Sony - MS hints at decline in third-party PS3 support

So does MSFT bother with looking at tie ratios for top selling console games?  Both the PS3 and 360 generally are close to one another in this, close enough that no 3rd party would wisely drop either platform.  Sports games are split down the middle with tie, FPS is a bit 360 oriented, action/fighting lean somewhat ps3.  Neither side runs away in anything really.  Again, it is another PR statement that people should read into before even considering it as a possibility.

Agree, yet also disagree. It sucks that the pursuit of exclusivity locks out some consumers to the benefit of the manufacturer that can prop up their console line-up with a laundry list of exclusive titles, but at the same time it is also a big factor in allowing exclusives to be written in a fashion that capitalizes on the strengths of the target platform, making those games even better than if they were written to the least common denominator and released multi-plat.

It's the nature of the beast, and the practice won't end any time soon. You take the bad with the good.

This is a repost, I think people are missing the point slightly. I see it that M$ may have already gained certain exclusives due to the way the market is now shaping.

This comment here he makes, makes me see this differently to everyone hear I think.

He added: "Historically, third parties would give us great support and lead developed on our platform, but they would say "In Europe, we have to still support the PS3" but now that that has switched, I think you'll see us get some benefits from that."

To me that looks as though M$ tried to get exclusitivity on some big games, but the devs or publishers werent willing to because of Europe. Maybe after the way 2008 finished, they have been able to gain some exclusives for some big name games. We will wait and see. I have a feeling there is some big game franchises going to be revealed this year as exclusive to 360. He speaks as if this is happening. Maybe M$ have to pay for it, but maybe now they have more sway with it to.

Good point.  But, nowadays, I also think some devs take the money and run to an extent.

I buy consoles for their games... not the other way around.

I hope Sony does bite the dust. And lose third-party support.

Then MS will have to live in the world, that they again, are losing the console race to another competitor. Because all they're doing right now is ignoring Ninty like they don't exist.

both hd consoles will still have 3rd party exclusives theres no doubt about that. those that are multiplay will remain so

microsoft will have more 3rd party exclusives simply because they have no choice but to go shopping for them, sony on the other hand will also sequre exclusives but not as much as microsoft because of sonys 1st party studios.

it will be interesting to see which console offers the best games in 2009, thats what its really about

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

YEAH!!! that'll teach 'em!!??

I'm sure nothing is going to teach Microsoft to not be dicks, but it would make listening to their PR bearable.  Spouting nonsense like predicting price cuts for your competitors, and predicting a decline of support, especially without any evidence is such a 'bitch move'.

I mean, if you're going ot act like one console doesn't exist, and only mention one console in your PR, fine, but don't then try to make shit up that doesn't even exist.

Karma is a bitch Microsoft... Ask Sony.  X_X

Bullshit PR is bullshit. News at eleven.

C'mon guys, you should be wiser than that. Both Sony and Microsoft have been dishing out ridicolous statements this gen.

Current-gen game collection uploaded on the profile, full of win and good games; also most of my PC games. Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts 1982-2008 (Requiescat In Pace).

Porting from PS3 to 360 and visa versa costs about 5% of developement costs, less if the project begins multiplat on a suitable engine.

So maybe once PS3's userbase is 5% that of Microsoft they'll go exclusive...... or, maybe not.

I doubt producers are going to say no to a potential market of 20 million+.
