Forums - Gaming - Soike Video Game Awards ratings down 25%

I think it was down because it didn't feel like an Award Show.. well maybe a half ass MTV award show.. but not that Golden Globe or Emmy feel to it..

People might say "ya because it deals with games" but I mean come on, the revenue and movie quality of games that have been made... not to mention games are not just for kids, why not get a REAL Feel award show?

Wouldn't an award show of certain statue give a push for Devs to put that little extra effort into their games?

I mean how about a couple years down the road you pick up a game that has "Academy Game Award" on the box, and not some 8.5/10 from some review mag that allot of people don't read (not to mention there's to many to name), but rather a group of unbiased people something like the Academy Awards staff.

to me Spike Awards really feel like MTV awards as compared to Golden Globe/Emmy, a change in this department isn't bad.

It would also change the way some morons (politicians) view games, as if they are brain washing our youth... like a daily episode on 3 different channels of some Crime show on TV has nothing to do with it...

ok.. ok.. I think I'm steering away from the discussion...

back to topic..

Spike Video Game Awards ratings down 26%

Now that the Spike Video Game Awards are a faint recollection, Variety reports that the quality piece of programmingevent sideshow was down 26%, with about 680,000 viewers, says the high lord of television ratings, Nielsen. It's the second lowest (a little above 2006's 618k) rated year since the show started in 2004, which was its most impressive with 1.23 million viewers.

It gets worse: Spike caters to the key 18-34 male demographic, which was down 29% from the prior year, with its lowest ever figures of 229,000 viewers.* Boys 12-17 were up by 30% to 199k. Variety does note that this year's show did go against some program called the Cowboys-Giants football game on NBC, which was the highest rated Sunday Night Football game ever. Still, those Spike numbers aren't too hot in a year that could become the biggest sales year in gaming history.

*Fun fact: 34,000 women aged 18-34 watched.

It may have something to do with the entire show sucking.
