So Cooking Mama: Cook Off only sold 700k?

I'm pretty sure they're only talking about NA, read the sentence before it  ;)

Also, i'm pretty sure the article is saying they lost $0.9 million in it's last quarter.  Not exactly a profit...

They made a net income of 2.1 for the fiscal years 2008 versus a 4.8 loss for the fiscal years 2007. They lost money their last quarter but since this is the one just before the holiday season this is not alarming(well, so as long as the loss are small) since expense in this business are more evenly distributed than revenue.

Why do the companies who don't deserve the money always get it? ;_;

Please explain to me how a small, quirky publisher like Majesco doesn't "deserve" to make money, while a megabucks, sequel-itis publisher like Activision does.

For the record, Majesco made a small profit on the year, and posted a loss only in Q4. Keep in mind that they are a very, VERY small publisher; Take-Two probably spent more money on Grand Theft Auto's marketing than Majesco brought in via revenue in the entire year. Their ability to compete among giants with vastly more resources is extremely impressive.

Majesco is a great story. They used to have a lot of hardcore games in development and completely focused on that. But those games all largely bombed and the company was about to go under. But they soon changed their business into making different types of games, turned their company around and are now making pretty good profits.

Well they've always been making a wide variety of games.  They made nanostray 1 & 2 for the DS & blastworks for the Wii.

And they used to make monopoly, m&m franchise games, bowling games, strawberry shortcake games, cartoon network games, hannah barbara, & looney toons games for the GBC & GBA so don't tell me they only used to make hardcore games (whatever that means anyway).

According to Wikipedia (sorry I can't find a better source), Majesco only had distribution of Cooking Mama in North America. Taito distributed the game in Japan and 505 Games in EU and Australia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_Mama:_Cook_Off

Thus, the 700k number would be North America -- and would show VGChartz being pretty accurate. (Unfortunately, some bozos from other boards won't be so smart and will start claiming this PROVES how bad this site is).

i see, it makes sense since they only published it in NA. It's probably a shipped number but i doubt there are many on shelves anymore, it's a really old game. I think that comes pretty close to confirming it's a million seller.

Cooking Mama undertracked  :O

Since the number is shipped and since the first Cooking Mama game is still in the retail supply trail (now at $20), VGC is well within a 10% margin of error.

(It would only take between 13,000 and 14,000 on store shelves to bring it within the margin. The game is new at 11 Gamestops within 50 miles of my location. So it is highly likely there are that many copies out there.)
