I think the Wii will hit 50M in 6 years! 
It's already up to 21,119,792, with 12,339,689 of those coming in the last 12 months. If this year is as good as the last then they will breach the 30,000,000 mark sometime this year.

I think it has a shot as well. I won't make a huge prediction, as predicting with the Wii is very hard, and oftenly meaningless.
~ 45% of the Wiis sales are in Americas.
If it sells out in 09, that means 13M (with a lower barrier of 11.5, upper of 14)
If it doesn't sell out, it will still beat 10M quite easily (especially as Americas is the market with the biggeest demand).
There's no doubt it will continue with at least 10-8-6 (in 10,11,12) which is 24M.
So I actually see it selling 50M sometime in 2012, which is less than 4 years from now.
(I don't really see the total exeeding 60M by far though, if it even does that).

I think these are just SCEA shipments, SCEA only recently started distribution in Latin America a few months ago, prior to then it was done locally. I think the "North America" shipments on Sony's corporate site actually also include South America (technically it doesn't fit in any column), as Koller had this to say about PS1 sales in an interview about PS2 hitting 50m in NA:
But on Sony's corporate site the figure given for PS1 in NA is 40.78m.

It seems most likely that these are US & Canadian shipments, and possibly Mexico too (I'm not sure if Mexico was covered by SCEA prior to their recent move into the rest of Latin America). Of course, there wasn't really any need for me to type out all of this as he clearly stated "in North America", but they don't always say what they mean, the numbers of times I've seen SCEE say Europe when they really meant PAL territories is a good example.

And after offering slideshow perspectives on Sony’s market share, and assurances that the company is in line with its goal of selling 10m PS3 units for the fiscal year, Mr Jackson moved straight onto detailing Sony’s plans for the PS2, its success, and plans for it to mushroom in Latin America. “We are going into our ninth Christmas with the PS2. Never been done with a console manufacturer in the history of the industry. Nine years in, and PS2 is still on the shelf this Christmas and is still selling very well, and as a matter of fact in a tight economy, is a great value proposition for the consumer,” Jackson said, adding that sales of the eight-year old console will sell on the “high side of 3.5m units in north America” by the end of the fiscal year. But North America is not Sony’s biggest plan for the PS2. Later on in his keynote, Jackson detailed the company’s three-phase plan for selling the establishing the console in Latin America. “The significance of the Latin America market is huge,” said Jackson. “Obviously from a population standpoint I don’t think it’s a big secret that this is a huge opportunity. We will put a number of resources in place to cater to that market.” The idea makes perfect sense for a company whose PS3 sales are struggling in the three biggest international markets. The inexpensive PS2 could be an ideal entry-level product for many areas of Latin America, and the potential there is massive. “Obviously just based on the sheer size of [Latin America], the number of countries there and the size of the population, long-term it has a very good opportunity to be bigger for SCEA than the Canadian market was.” “We’re now launching there. There are countries in Phase 1 Latin America that we’re aggressively gong after, and they include Chile Argentina, Columbia, and Peru.” Phase two of Sony’s push into Latin America is scheduled to begin this month, with the console being distributed to Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela. I am not so sure it is shipments.... If it is shipments, then this is the first hard evidence we have to find out the difference between Sony's old "production shipment" method and the current sales to retail (or shipments to us)
Because on that same corporate site there is a figure for PS2 production shipments at 47.68 million all the way back in March 2007

Since which they have supposedly sold (to retail) 17.74 million PS2s worldwide.... even if only 1/3rd were sold to American retailers that pushed the total to 53 million+ and given Japan is so low I doubt only 1/3rd were sent to America.

If you look in this thread you'll see we have worldwide retail shipment numbers for PS2, although not for NA. The worldwide difference between PS2 production shipments and PS2 retail shipments was 1.8m through March 2007. If we apply NA market share (47.68/117.89 = 40.4%) to that difference we can estimate ~47m retail shipments for NA through March 2007. They must have shipped alot more than 3m over the last 7 quarters (they expect to ship over 3.5m this fiscal year). The math doesn't really add up for the NA total on Sony's site to match up with SCEA's total, it must include more than just SCEA figures, same as PS1.
PAL PS2 retail shipments were 48m through 2007 out of a total of 127m worldwide.
Note that Japan production shipment figures also include Asia.
If this isn't shipment numbers then what else could it be? Certainly not NPD numbers (~43m in US + ~ 3m in CA through Nov). Sony's internal sold through estimates? Unlikely, as they would have said it was sold through. All that matters to SCEA is how many they've sold to retail, and they have exact numbers for this, so it only really makes sense that the 50m number is SCEA's PS2 shipment total.
