I think the flamewars on which console has better specs is one of the worst and gets really annoying.
Personally i think the only way to avoid having flamewars is to go to a one console site or something where there is alot less of the other console owners there.
This site is not nearly as bad as 1up or IGN forums they are really bad for flamewars and the mods being crap doesnt help the mods usually just throw oil on the fire.
I think having debates about which one is better by using evidence isnt bad but its when the real fanboys come in and turn it into a flamewar thats where it gets out of hand.

End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)

It would help if the mods had a way to delete and edit posts. If a mod stepped in when someone like LEO J posts something like he did in the very thread and simply deletes the post or edits out content and pastes in something like "back on topic" it would help tremendously.

That said, I need to be a mod as I would be ruthless on the fanboy and thread hijacking from trolls. :)

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

But what can we post then?

A lot of threads had a flamewar :s.

And flamewars are sometimes fun.

It's never going to end. Even if there was only one game console, someone is going to talk trash about it. People like to complain, even if they know nothing about what they are complaining about.

Fifth, even if you start a reasonably informative, interesting, and peaceful thread, some insecure jerks will jump in no time.

QFT. And if you can't get a flamewar going, just post something about anothers country demographics or politics, and even mods arn't able to resists, it seems ;)

What can we do about it?

User: Ignore posts that just flaming, really. The problem is not the first flame post. The problem is, that a lot of people are just pissed and do the wrong thing, they respond. Not only quick responses, with YMMD if the flame is funny, full responses, picking up the argument. Just ignoring flame posts would help, those flame user just would go somewhere else.

Mods: Ban, edit and warn, if things get out of hand. Be a good role model.

You think VGChartz has it rough? This is the most civil forum I've been to. At least any argument that is done here raises extremely valid points instead of uneducated blabber.

By life end:

  • Wii- 100 million+
  • Xbox360- 35~40 million
  • PS3- 30 million
  • PSP- 30~32 million ------------- FAILURE
  • NDS- 85~90 million (Skeptical)  - FAILURE
  • NDS- 100 million+ (Optimistic) -- Success!

Flaming is unfortunately, part of life.

This is definitely the most civil games forum I think I have ever seen (and I will try to keep it that way ;). Check out the user posts on IGN for *any* article as an example (its good reason for IGN to stop those posts appearing on news pages, as I think it seriously devalues their site - but that's another story...).

There will be quiet times during the year, where there isn't a lot of news - and people WANT to post. That is why many of these threads popup. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as people stay civil, understand that others are just having some fun (etc). But that doesn't excuse trolling :)

...

The exciting part of the year will erupt shortly - with heaps of games, reviews, big sales, flops and more... and there will be plenty to talk about. Imagine what things will be like around the end of December ;)

Yup, we've got a pretty nice community here. Mostly friendly, kind and cuddly little people. Though I've never played it, I imagine that it's something like Animal Crossing.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.
