Forums - Sony - Nikkei: Sony expected to post $1.12 billion loss

Not good at all, some serious losses there. Still can't see the gaming division being touched until Sony are really go belly up and in a business as big as Sony billions can be gained easily. Will be interesting to see how things go but no doubt they will figure something out, there is a reason they have been around for 50+ years and people here posting doom and gloom threads about Sony are shelve stackers at Tesco's. ;)

Seriously, that is one hell of a silly saying.  If it were that easy, all of these companies would not be going broke and belly up right now.  Not just Sony, I am talking MAJOR COMPANIES such as Ford, GM, Toyota, and tons of others.

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft tried to exploit Sony's weak state by offering to purchase famous IPs or studios from them. Right now Sony owns around 8% of Square-Enix Holdings. I'm sure Microsoft would love to get that 8% and use it to leverage even more exclusives from Square-Enix Holdings.

8% really won't give you leverage in anything decisions wise in a publically traded company.

It's not really about taking 8%, it's about taking Sony's 8%. Despite recent game releases, Sony still has very strong ties with SEH. If Microsoft can take Sony's 8% and purchase some more stock from other companies, they may be able to obliterate Sony's relationship with SEH.

Sony's 8% hasn't gotten them anything... really.  I mean what?  FF13V is like the only SE exclusive they have isn't it?

Is today like "bash" Sony day, or what?

Oh wait.. thats almost everyday :(..

Sony has done a lot of it to itself, kind of the way that Sega did awhile back.

Nah, Sega effectly made 4 bad hardware choices in a row.

CD, 32X, then rushed the Saturn THEN rushed the Dreamcast.

Sony just made 1 mistake and the PS brand is still incredibly strong... i mean look at europe.

Sega's experiments were not nearly as expensive as Sony's overextending.

No... however Sega's expierments blew their brand name completly to where people were afraid of getting a dreamcast cause their last three "expierments" sucked and they abandoned them way too quickly.

The next time you have nothing substantial to add to a topic you're banned.

FYI: Nikkei is Japans most important financial analyst and if they expect this kind of losses, it will likely not be pretty. Don't know what relevant 3rd party information has to do with bashing.

well you answered my question so no point in posting it.

But, while it is the largest analyst group in Japan, what is their average on being correct versus being wrong?

Right before financial results?  Usually... very.  Right before companies post orgnizations like this are rarely ever wrong.

well I guess it is expected... with so many major companies and chains crashing Sony is bound to lose something, but after Christmas? geez.. thats painful. Hopefully their new TVs and crap are cheaper to manufacture.

I wonder, is it cheaper for Sony to produce stuff in the US now to supply US and EU demand versus their current locations?

Probably not... the issue isn't so much what they're buying is more expensive... as it is... what we're paying them isn't worth as much.

Electronics have very low profit margins because there are a lot of differnet makers pushing each other.

I mean the dollar has dropped but it hasn't dropped China or Signapore low....

I mean heck... the 360 my girlfriend got me was made in China and Singapore. (Great "American" system there.)

Still the Japanese government should step in... soon.  The Yen being so high just isn't good for the country.

This is a big blow to the company.......ouch >_

It would probably cost $10s of billions of dollars to recreate the Chinese factories in the US. Not to mention that labor is far more expensive as well.
