Forums - Gaming - Does anyone with 1080p tv have issues with Wiis graphics?

Its no secret that I have not been playing my wii much. 2 - 3 weeks sometimes go by without it being turned on. With all this Wii downtime, I recently I noticed that when I do turn it on, I am really starting to have issues with Wii's graphics. This mostly started recently when I upgraded to a 67 inch 1080p Samsung.

This isn't the problem with old games as Im used to them (resident evil gamecube for exmaple) or the mini games but with the newer titles that are story or mission driven. I find that sub par graphics totally disconnect me from the gaming experience.

Sonic Unleashed for example. I finished the 360 version and now am trying to play the Wii version a bit but anyone that played the 360/ps3 version(especially on a big 1080p TV) would just not believe how bad the Wii version looks. Same with COD:WaW. Its the animations I think...when you shoot the enemies its just not satisfying as the animations suck.

I am hoping to get replies from Wii owners who also own an HDTV as well as ps360(or a good gaming PC). Do you find that Wiis graphics on your TV turn you off from enjoying the system as much as your should?

Yes and I think it is we just got used to the graphics of the HD consoles. The Wii just looks horrible on the big screen. I fired up my PS2 and was also like wow... Have times changed. I don't remember it looking so bad.

It doesn't look as nice as HD, but if I turn the sharpness to it's minimum setting it's passable. Make sure you have the component cables, otherwise it really would look atrocious.

I don't have any issues.

I have a 1080p TV, a 360 and a Wii.
Lately I have been playing quite a lot of both, but basically I'm most turned of about the load times in LO than anything else.

I also use my DS a lot and enjoy those games as well and my VC also gets a lot of usage, so maybe I'm just not that much into graphics. I've played quite some Shaun White Snowboarding on Wii and I like the graphics a lot, just as I like LO's.

You do use component cables with your Wii, right? And you also have the settings on 480p (HDTV)?

I have a 1080p set and a Wii (mine is a 50" samsung) and I don't have a problem with them. Upgrading to component helped a lot though.

Yeah, Im using component lol. I have an HDMI cable sitting next to the wii...for good luck.

Resolution I can get around...its things like draw distance, character models, animations...

Some games look better than others too. Like Sonic and the Secret rings looks very good. Sonic unleashed (the warewolf stages especially) looks atrocious. Anyone that reviews that game better on the Wii (IGN im looking at you) obviously hasn't played them on an HD TV.

Nintendo games also tend to be fun no matter what kind of graphics they use. Stuff like Wii sports, Mario Strikers Charged and Mario Kart I have no issues with... I don't even notice the polygons on nintendo games...hmmm

I think my Wii looks fantastic on my 50 inch samsung, but I must admit I don't have a PS360 on that TV either. I do have my PC hooked up to a nice monitor, and I must admit I don't really have problems with the Wii's graphics.

No, but I do have issues on my 32" 720p TV. The scaler has issues so I have to run it in 480i mode even though I can watch DVDs in 480p just fine

However, I haven't played my Wii in weeks cause I've been hooked on Valkyria Chronicles. I just beat that so I'm going to go back and play some of the games I haven't finished on the Wii yet, and replay a few others.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

i always play the wii and ps2 games in 4:3 mode and with the smaller screen it is bearable.
my ps3 and xbox360 are off course in the highest resolution.

I play my Wii on a very good 23" Samsung HDTV, and fuzziness hasn't been too much of a problem in most games-Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 stand out as fine examples of what artistry and the Wii can create. However, No More Heroes looks absolutely awful sometimes. It has slightly lessened my enjoyment of a fine and very unique game, simply because I believe a little more effort could have gone in technically. The noise the Wii makes when playing NMH is awful, and Wii can display much better resolutions than those seen in NMH.
