Forums - Microsoft - HALO 3:ODST will meet its toughest competition

Most people I see comparing sales, seem to forget/ignore that COD4 is multiplatform while Halo 3 is 360 exclusive. This reminds me of the whole MKWii vs GTAIV. Many people (on Gamefaqs mind you, a site I don't take seriously :P) were saying "if you combine the sales, GTAIV owned the **** out of Mario Kart" (although ironically now, assuming the numbers on this site are correct, MKW has outsold GTAIV total :P)...
It's stupid to compare sales of an exclusive vs multiplat. What you should actually do is take the fraction of copies sold/units sold of what console you can play it on. Mind you both the Halo and the COD franchise are excellent shooters, so I hope both do well :D

This is what outlawauron should value//

@outlawauron

Anything that outsells the "great Halo"//congrats to a multiplatform game.lol

The Mario Kart / GTA IV comparison was perhaps a little more relevant given that the userbase for the two games was awfully similar. As such it was a reasonable comparison.

The Halo 3 and CoD comparison though is irrelevant, as CoD has a far larger audience to sell too. All that comparison really does is make Halo 3 that much more impressive.

@Picko

Your words are so freaking awesome and true!!! :)

For every blind fanboy that keeps arguing "but cod is multiplat" or "cod is mega superior anyways for reasons i can't explain" here is some clear information that can be found by using one of this websites simple features.

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Call+of+Duty+4%3A+Modern+Warfare+-+X360&reg2=All&game2=Halo+3+-+X360&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100&weekly=1

Both games are FPS and both results are for Xbox 360 only.  It has the same relative audience with this data.  They are both FPS classed, even if the stories differ.  As is expected, the exclusive with a strong cult like following has a huge first week spike.  For the remainder of the release time comparison, both games have similar sales numbers.  If anything, the 360 version of COD could have lower sales due the multiplat status.  There are some PC/PS3/360 owners who bought halo 3 and bought COD4 for ps3 or PC due to their own preferences.  So stop playing this multiplat argument to death, it is getting old.

whats this Halo 3 thingy?

I thought Halo 3 was the last in the trilogy

Halo ODST should sell very well, but since its an expansion pack I don't think it will sell aswell as call of duty will on the xbox. But I'd be willing to bet it still sells like 5 million copies or so and boosts halo 3's sales even further.

Well COD is a bigger franchise then Halo now so yes, it will be torn apart by COD: MW 2 at the time to release.

Holy hell! I wasn't comparing the sales between anything. I just stated that CoD has become the most popular FPS franchise surpassing Halo. That's it.

And you'd have to be an complete idiot to think that if CoD:WaW was a 360 exclusive, it wouldn't have sold any better.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

@outlawauron

Yes and the main reason you keep avoiding is the reason it surpass Halo is because it was a multi-platform game. Holy-hell that...

Most of your posts in this topic have been off-topic and largely irrelevant. This thread is about the competition ODST faces upon release.

Halo 3: ODST does not compete against the PS3 version of CoD, the number of people who own both systems is incredibly small to the point where it does not have a material affect on sales. Halo 3: ODST competes directly against the 360 version of CoD, and on that console the Halo franchise is significantly larger than the CoD one. CoD offers a great deal of competition for ODST but lets not overestimate it.
