Forums - Microsoft - The Xbox 360 11 year and one day plan!

*Apple strength reality distortion field activated*

The Xbox 360 was released on November 22 2005, according to the awesome 11 year and one day plan set down by Microsoft the console will be on the market until at least November 25 2016.

Looking at past precedent, only games systems which are less powerful than their rivals, which have been released earlier and have tons of games are future proofed enough to stand the test of time. Having a more powerful system releasing later is a powerful corelation to having a shorter life-span. So by this measure its pretty obvious that the Xbox 360 is the one which meets all the conditions past consoles with long lifespans as the Wii fad will obviously end in 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017. (Eventually )

Haha LoL.
Not a chance. People laugh at the PS3 supposedly lasting 10 years so I hope no-one takes this one seriously XD.

I don't understand why you laugh... I presented perfectly sound reasoning because you know history repeats itself, always. I mean its pretty obvious the system that the poster on Vgchartz likes the most will have a long lifespan, usually this is the PS3 for some reason but I hope to change that!

Well while i agree that the PS & PS2 were the less powerful systems against N64 & XBOX respectively, and i agree they were more future proofed, i.e. CD for PS much more flexable, bigger games, able to play music CDs, PS2 play films without silly hacks etc. I dont think the same can be said for 360.

In this instance technology wise is the more powerful (subjective i know, but for the sake of the thread's argument)/expensive system is the more future proofed. If BD takes off like its looking like so far, and the PS3 is the best machine for stereoscopics (again subjective at this point), then who knows.

My only guess is the outcome of this console war wont be overly comparible with the last couple of generations.

Wait, Sony is going to make money selling Playstation brand headache pills? Wow, pharmacuticals are a good money spinner!

Though you do realise that cheap as chips is probably the number 1 feature of a future proof console?

^PS2 hasn't even lasted that long and it has like 135M owners, which means there are plenty of owners who still use the PS2 as their primary console which means there is plenty of reason to keep it on shelves.
The 360 wont hit near PS2 numbers so theres not enough reason to keep it selling for that long and I dont think people will want to Invest in old Technology in around 7years time, regardless of history.
Theres a 1st time for everything.

Thats why i said technology wise, price wise i agree the 360 is great value for money, tbh i think both systems are good value for what your getting respectively. But i suppose there is two parts to future proofing, the console itself for getting new users all the time, and then keeping the current crop of users happy once they have it - both equally important.

360 doesn't have enough great exclusives to last 11 years. Each year so far (except 2005) theres been either a Gears of War or Halo. Theres no way that can happen for 7 or 8 more years. Sure they have the multi plat games but exclusives are what separate PS3 from 360...well and blu ray.

As long as MS makes money on the 360,they will support it. Look at ps2 -> 120$ for a 8 year old machine that will not receive new games compared to 200$ 3 year old machine with many exclusive games coming and plenty of support.

Sony is making money with ps2 and has removed BC on the ps3 just to keep making money.

MS is making money off Xbox Live and downloads, plus games. As long as they do this, the 360 will be on the market just as the ps2 is.

Don`t see nothing wrong with that. But trust me,it`s not that the 360 GPU is a little more performant that ps3`s GPU,it`s not that 360`s CPU is more powerful that ps3`s CPU,it`s about how easy is for the developers to make and support games on the 360. We all know that is very easy,so the developers and MS will make money off the 360 because the userbase will grow and grow.

Now do you get the 10-11 year plan? With rising cost of game development (100 mil for GTA4 comes to mind) nobody wants another console with small userbase just like we don`t want to buy a 720,so the 360 WILL stay on the market longer than ps3 because of the price and ease of development.

I agree microsoft will certainly continue to support xbox 360 year after year.
but microsoft want also release a new system before sony
i think microsoft will release a new xbox late in 2011 and will continue to support 360 until 2015 at least
