Forums - Gaming - I give up! Microsoft got second place in the war!

Hey it's good to think that way, all you can be is pleasantly surprised which is the best kind of surprised there is. Best 3rd place console ever though, enjoy all the games the PS3 is getting, be that all those multi-plats or exclusives.

assumption is the mother of all fu....nny that the doom and gloom continues for all consoles yet they carry on selling them, almost as if complaining about them is all a bit meaningless.....

In Japan PS3 already win.
In US, UK, Canada and Australia Xbox360 already win.
In Others European still not confirmed. When Sony cut PS3 price it will sell better than Xbox360.
In Others country especially Asian and Sounth America Xbox360 win (pirated games)

The only reason Xbox360 outsell PS3 is because of price. Both console has great exclusive games (MGS4, GOW, Halo, LBP,). XBL is better but PSN is free. Both also appeal to hardcore gamer. So, I think at the end both will be very close like Xbox and Gamecube.

Things are not looking good right now for Sony but I wouldn't rule out 2nd for them just yet. After 2009(especially the Holiday season) I think we will have a definitive answer on where Sony and Microsoft stand for this generation.

*Clap, Clap* :P

I really don't think so...Sony's ps3 is going to last longer than the Box so in the long run the Ps3 is going to be in 2nd..

I knew the 10-year plan would pop-up quickly in this thread.

OT: Good for you.

It's better to be pleasantly surprised once (unlikely as you said) than to get disappointed every non-year of the PS3.

frankly i couldnt care what Sony says or how long the PS3 is on the market for. I see the PS3 actually closing the gap and by 2010 or 2011 the PS3 will be in 2nd. I;m hoping holiday 2010 but I;m doubtful.

Ill just stand by the mailbox and wait for Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft to send me their respective place ribbons so I can place them on my consoles accordingly...

Hmm...but it Sony really does use that strategy again(of allowing the PS3 to eat into the PS4's sales) instead of what MS plans to do, which I assume is to cut support of the 360 in favor of the nextBox....then wouldn't it get them even further behind, in a way?

One thing that MS did pretty well this gen was keeping its demand focused on one product, along with getting that product out the door early...if Sony stick to a 10 year plan, and is even further behind the next Xbox at launch, while attempting to support multiple consoles, wouldn't that actually be a worse move than writing the PS3 off as a "not 100 percent successful console," and getting a fresh start with the PS4?

IMO, if I were Sony, I would do a few things differently next gen:

A. Drop support of all preceeding consoles, and allow my PS4 to be full BC(all the way back ot the PS1, BR, and DVD) of course.

B. Charge a small fee for online. That way I can keep my console affordable.

C. Switch focus away from unnecessarily costly 1st party productions like KillZone 2, and put it towards a number of slightly smaller projects 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party.

D. Make sure my first party efforts appealed to my console audience. I would create Legend of Dragoon 2, for instance.

E. Try to buy some console exclusive time for GTA, Tekken, DMC, or Final Fantasy. Just a few months. Timed exclusivity is almost as good as being exclusive, and it attaches those names to your brand, in the consumer's eye.

F. Launch on the same day, or earlier than the next Xbox.

G. Keep the price low, in an attempt to appeal to casual gamers. My PS4 would not be a graphics focused machine. Improving on the PS3, certainly, but not much more powerful than a modern high end PC.

H. Add an innovative aspect, motion controls, except less 6axis, more waggle-motion plus.

I. Pwn.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I know it is very late to say this. However, I finally came to reality that Sony just can't hit second place by the end of the console war. I mean as much as I don't want to believe it, its the truth. However, I still think the sales between them and Microsoft will be very close at the end. I am glad I got this off my chest.

How about just enjoying the system, and if you never had a preferred system not win a given generation, then you get used to it and move on?  One needs to be more worried about a Crash in the early 1980s, where the entire industry went down, than a single company losing.  The PS3 has some GREAT exclusives, such as LBP and Uncharted.  It has competent FPS exclusives also like Resistance, and early word on KZ2 is it will be real good also.  And then there is Gran Turismo due to hit also.  And for fans of it, there is MGS4.

How can the 10 year plan compete with the 11 year and one day plan?
