Forums - Nintendo - Does the Wii need a platnium range.

On the gamecube there was the greatest hits selection of best selling games for the system.

Considering that the Wii is far more sucessfull isnt it time they allowed for the unimformed consumer to see what games are the most popular amoung the Wii install base.

Whats your opinion.

Absolutely. I'm very surprised we havn't seen this already. However Nintendo is also trying to move away from the model of dropping prices on games. So you'll find for the most part Nintendo games have remained at a static price point since they launched. Not doing a 'Platinum Sellers' - which is usually half the original price could be part of that decision.

Still it'd be nice to have some kind of Platinum brand for outstanding 3rd party games like Zack & Wiki, RE4, Okami & Boom Blox (and many others) that people shouldn't miss.

What I don't want is any million seller getting 'Platinum' cause that would further help sales of crapfests like Party Games.

While I agree that we need a Platinum Hits line, I can understand why we have yet to see one.

The games at full price still sell. The entire purpose of a Platinum Hits line is to increase sales rates for titles that have slowed to a crawl. That hasn't happened yet on Wii.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

If there was a platinum range I would buy all the games i've been holding back on due to the price being redicuously high for what they offer.

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.

Nintendo should wait for a couple of months, first. So then I get a chance to pick up a Wii and all the games I want without having to make do with shitty box art.

I seriously hate cheap looking boxart. It's killed the potential purchase from me of Heavenly Sword. And many PS2/Xbox games.

Iwata did say that Nintendo would not exercise discounted software. I'm not sure if he meant at all or just in that fashion.

But basically if 3rd parties want to drop their prices then so be it. But no Nintendo game will recieve a discounted price; he made it sound like a 'never' kind of thing.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

The reason is that they don't want to embarass the third parties, lol, no but seriously, they don't need to offer it right now

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I wouldn't say it's needed but I want it so I could purchase some older games that I don't really want to pay 50 bucks for. Plus it would to reduce the price of used Wii games.

Judging by software sales? Nope.

Judging by my wallet? Absolutely.

Considering the games are still selling like crazy at current prices, no.

I'm sure we will get them in the future though, it's a great way to boost sales.
