Forums - Sales - Greenberg clarifies 1 million 360 lead over PS3 in Europe

^that is what I am saying, they have released earlier statements make it look like they have actually sold less than vgc, like saying they have sold 8 million in a region VGC "had" them at 8.7. So if this really is the case, and the gap is what you all think, then it would imply PS3 overtracking, more the 360 undertracking.

Whatever gets the Wii to 50% marketshare right?

before we assume vgchartz is wrong we have to actually know exactly all the countries that MS considers as Europe. Vgchartz has 360 with a 1.5 million advantage in others, it just depends on how you define Europe.

That is easy the ones included were posted right there in the PR if people actually had read it at the time.

[2] EMEA region includes: UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Russia, Hungary, Slovakia, South Africa, and UAE

right but vgchartz isn't even broken down so specifically. Vgchartz has the huge thing they call "other" that includes 1.7 million 360s. You'd have to get a further breakdown of that to make any conclusions.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Interesting.

What amazes me more than any hardware numbers is that he claims that the 360 is home to 80% of game-music downloads. If you're Activision or Harmonix that's huge and you absolutely cannot afford to ignore the 360. Maybe that's how they got timed exclusivity on RB2.

Hopefully, we can get numbers directly from GFK in the next few weeks that can clarify actual sales numbers at the end of 2008....So either Greenberg can be vindicated or not.

At any rate, keep the numbers as-is till we get hard numbers from GfK or another source.

Can't say I really buy this either. These numbers are as good as being from them as that is who MS is quoting, and then reiterated by the analyst in the PR. Not only that but a similar thing occurred in November and then come mid Dec Eurogamer pretty much verified what MS stated. I'm not sure how anyone can think they are from any other source at this point.

those other markets that vg supposedly tracks are very VERY VERRRYY small markets. which is why they are irrelevant to even the big 3! the lead is 1 million in the UK, like microsoft have said. the rest of europe is even or ps3 ahead.

What's more interesting to me is the mention of their philosophy about announcing games. I think in the coming months some pretty big game announcements are going to come for the 360.

How are they so small?  1.7 million 360s are sold outside of europe, NA, Australia, and Japan according to vgchartz.  For example at the beginning of 2008 it was reported that 360 had sold 200k in Korea, it's probably around 300k by now, that accounts for 300k of the 700k difference already.

Wow mate... back up a little. You do know that "others" entails Europe, Asia, Africa, etc? Europe alone is bigger then Japan and, in your interest, PS3's best market at the moment. Some even decalre that Europe is the main battleground for consoles at the moment.
