When talking Wii, a single doesn't matter. When talking two identical systems, perhaps it does.
“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.
As much as it pains me to say it I dont think KZ2 will dramatically effect PS3 sales. While the game is hyped on sites like this, a lot of average gamers don't know about it. Sony needs to market this with some game footage and decent ads for this to be successful.

Let me do the equation:
Gears of War graphics < Awesome killzone 2 graphics = shiny mmm interesting \{Crysis}
Now it makes sense and its inside the physics and math rules.

Yeah I would apreciate, thought that overselling was the right word... EDIT: is it oversell? |
It's outselling and no. The 360 got the momentum right now and KZ2 won't change that. Even a price cut(which won't happen) in Q1 won't change it, the only thing I see giving the PS3 momentum back is a 100$ price cut before Q4 when the big established franchise will hit.
Whaterver they can afford it is another matter. Revenue was way down this holiday season for SCE with just PS3 software going up so SCE may look at another years in the red, a much smaller loss certainly but still a loss. Looking at there current situation I don't see them being price cut happy if they are still unprofitable because if they do it may well be there job that would be cut next.

I predict the lifetime sales of Killzone 2 will be 1.5 million, it won't even be a systemseller
I agree with the many people above me. PS3 has a chance to outsell 360 the WEEK OF Killzone 2, but it needs a price cut to do so presistently.
I think the PS3 will sell more than the 360 in Europe most of this year.
The huge numbers of 360s sold this christmas are to a completely different group of buyers than the ones buying consoles the rest of the year.
The US market is a completely different story.
