World War 2 i mean. Are the Japanese still holding a grudge against the atomic bombs? The 360 practically offers pretty much every game the PS3 has plus a whole lot of JRPGs. I'm wondering.. still old hatreds killing sales?

Do you refuse to buy Nintendo/Sony/Toshiba products because of Pearl Harbor?

Do You refuse to buy German cars and especially Volkswagon because of The Nazis?

They hate the controller. Its too big for their hands. Same for me. I am asian too and I hate the 360 controller. I love the PS3 controller on the other hand.

It passed through my mind for a moment, then I laughed and considered the notion folly.

Japan loves America. They take everything they love about America, then multiply it and that's why they're so weird. Everything about Japan is because they took our weird things and made them weirder.

Oh, come on.

For some games only that might have an impact (like, for example, how well would a shooter where you played a Japanese soldier in a Japanese army go down in the USA - not very well, right).

But mostly it will be for other reasons. Straight off the cuff and without any knowledge here are a few possibles:

1) Japanese culture respects perfection - in everything from flower-arranging to whatever the opposite of flower-arranging is. The RROD debacle will have had a massively greater effect in Japan than anywhere else.

2) Design is important to the Japanese (see flower-arranging above). Xbox 360 is relatively a great hulking noisy and brooding beast. It is un-neat.

3) The gaming culture in Japan is very broad and to an extent very quirky to western eyes. It is not all JRPGs. Culturally, Microsoft just do not get the breadth thing in the way that Nintendo and Sony obviously do. Take, as perhaps a too-obvious example 'You're in the Movies' which as an example of MS trying to break into the 'casual' market is a perfect example of complete misunderstanding. If MS don't 'get' the western casual market they have no chance in Japan.

4) It is Microsoft. Microsoft have many qualities, only one of which is being American. Amongst the others are that they are bigtime corporate bullies, have a marketing department that has shades of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation and are essentially neither polite nor respectful. And probably not honourable. This would not go down well.

Put it this way. If Microsoft were the exact same company but Japanese, they would not have sold a thing in America. Because they try to impose their culture rather than understand others'.

5) Microsoft is still the new kid on the block in gaming. Untried, untrusted, unproven. Experience is respected and MS don't have it.

That enough to be going on with?

I'm no expert, but Japan has a big gaming history. It wouldn't surprise me that was the reason the 360 has so much trouble, because they fear the non Japanese console. They love Sony and Nintendo, and are proud of their countries achievements in gaming. I would be if there was an Australian built gaming console.

You could spin your argument around and say are less americans buying the PS3 because of pearl habour :oP

They are cheering for the home team, and that's why MS will never win there. There only chance is to make japanese developers successful in western markets on the xbox & pc platforms.

QTF! Smaller hands = smaller controller,Bigger hands = bigger controller,POTT! (POST OF THE THREAD)

Well if people are going to say "PS3 does better in Japan because PS3 is made by a Japanese company" then we can say Americans buy the most 360's so they are also doing the same thing and routing for an American company.

Then Nintendo come into the equation and we all know how that story goes......
