Forums - Gaming - Anyone using a Philips 42PFL7603D for gaming?

Hi,

I just bought a new TV, I got tired of my 14" CRT. Since I don't have any of the current generation consoles, or anything that outputs 1080p I have not been able to check how bad the lag is. Om my NES and SNES it is pretty bad. SMB is hardly playable for me since timing is imperative if you are speedrunning. Does anyone here own this TV and use it for gaming? How bad is the input lag with current gen consoles -- Wii as well as the HD consoles.

Thanks in advance!

input lag?  I don't have anything of the sort outside of online gaming

Does your TV of a game mode? If so, turning that on should reduce most of the lag.

Buy component cables or HD in the case of PS3 and 360 (if you buy a model that has hdmi output of course)... It's the best you can do to reduce lag between your actions and image displayed on screen.

No gaming mode on my TV.

I'll try to borrow a PS3 from a friend and see how it feels, with HDMI of course.

Cueil: With composit I have not (in reality) seen any 1080p TV without input lag that at least is >50 ms. It does not ruin the experience in all games but games that demand perfect timing - like dance games, guitarr hero or when speedrunning a platformer - are more or less unplayable with a composit connection.

Here are some good videos showing input lag:

And a horrible example with a Wii

Is that an ambilight model? I recently got the 52" 7403 North American model and it runs fantastic with both PS3 (HDMI) and Wii (Component). Haven't even tried out the 360 yet though.

I own a Philips but where i can see the model?

On mine there is a small sticker on the side of the back, just where the ambilight diodes are placed. Other than that, I dunno :P

I had some input lag on my old Sony XBR rear projection. I thought the new TVs have erased input lag off the face of the earth...
