Not enough material or desire for such a game?

I'm pretty sure Nintendo can come up with new material for a new Mario game. And we're not talking about a remake. It's more like a true sequel to SMW.

For mechanics, NSMB was missing something very important that SMW had, the ability to fly.

A true sequel to SMW is something alot of people will get excited about.

NSMB had more in common with SMB3, not SMW.

And I thought SMW wasn't in All-Stars.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I thought about it some more, and I think SMW would work better as a DS2 launch title (nov something 2009?)
That wa, the dev's working on galaxy can then spen 2 years owrking on a DS launch title. And let's face it- a strong launch really helps a console (look at wii)
Also, I think that the new DS-
should have DC level graphics
should be less than $200 at launch
Should be DS backwards compatable
should have an app for slae for $20-30 that allows the DS2 to go online for free, and surf the web/watch you tube movies/play some falsh games via the opera browser.
and NSW should be a launch title

then psp2 would be behind from the get-go lol

They definitely will make a sequel to NSMB - Nintendo would be nuts if they didn't.
But they'll wait until NSMB has cooled off completely, and I think it's a good idea to wait, cause people would get sick of Mario J'n'R's otherwise.
I don't believe it will be called New Super Mario World though - they started a new series with NSMB, so the successor will likely be NSMB2.

Currently playing: NSMB (Wii)

Waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii), The Last Story (Wii), Golden Sun (DS), Portal 2 (Wii? or OSX), Metroid: Other M (Wii),
... and of course Zelda (Wii)

There was a limited edition cartidge that contained All Stars + Super Mario World. They even sold it bundled with the SNES, you sometimes find it on ebay:

Regarding Super Mario World

I believe it is known as SUPER MARIO BROS 4 in JAPAN
AKA SMB4: Super Mario World

"Super Mario World" was the larger then life Subtitle.

They got rid of the SMB4 moniker on the title screen in the USA version
(I can't confirm this though, since I do not own a Japanese copy of the game.)

Predictions For Last Full Week of Sales in 2010)

WII - 80.35 Million

360 - 43.88 Million

PS3 - 41.40 Million

More terrible predictions coming Jan. 2011!!!

Oooh
Double Nerdy Knowledge.

Yoshi's Island for SNES was also know as Super Mario World 2.
So if you go by the japanese numbering... it was SUPER MARIO BROS 5, but the game was a prequel of sorts.

AHHH
MY BRAIN HURTS.

I'm also someone who isn't a huge fan of NSMB. I mean it looked great, it was fun but I bought it then thought it was totally a rental after beating it a couple of times.

It's like a prettied up, made easier old game. Just didn't do it for me.

On the other hand, and strangely, I would welcome a New Super Mario World a lot. I think this is because Super Mario World is my favorite 2D mario by far and I just cannot get enough of it.

So yes, even though I didn't like NSMB I would be first in line to get New Super Mario World on the DS.

I mean the game still looks great when I play it on the virtual console, it has the best worlds, yoshi, a good bowser fight, great dungeons, awesome ghost houses, some of the best music in a Mario game ever, loads and loads of levels and secrets, so many great things about this game.

The dungeon/fortress music in Super Mario World is my favorite Mario tune, even though there are much more known ones, that one I like the most easily.

I haven't bought any of the other Mario 2D games so far on the virtual console even though they were great for their time, this one is the most timeless one of all the side scrolling marios.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

That's true, people seem to forget Yoshi's Island is SMW2...so we're talking about a possible SMW3.
