Forums - Sony - Will sony actually protect themselves in Spring?

After reading a thread

I have a feeling M$ might add some value to their 360's when (if) Sony will do the same to the PS3's in the spring.  What kind of value could you see them adding? maybe like......um......PSN cards with every PS3? (I don't think that would be smart or maybe I could be wrong)

Two controllers? Comes along with the offical bluetooth headset?

I'm pretty sure there won't be a pricecut this spring though

MS will do nothing if sony does nothing...

Backward compatibility like Microsoft has would be a lot of value. And it would encourage PS2 owners to upgrade.

I hope so, so i can get better deal on xbox 360.

Sony need to add a game or two, with a choice of what blu-movie you want, add a HDMI cable and extra controller. That should do it. But I supect MS will add more games, 3 months gold live subscription, extra controller and wi-fi?

sony still thinks they can outsell 360 without a price cut. soon they will have to realize that its very unlikely that will happen and then be forced to cut the price.

The sad truth is, the main source of profit for SCE is PS2 sales. If they added backwards compatibility to the PS3, it would increase PS3 sales and decrease PS2 sales, while making the PS3 more expensive.

Sony will add in backwards compatability when the PS3 becomes profitable on it's own and the PS2 stops selling.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

i agree, they wouldnt add BC in right now, that would basically end Playstation 2 sales.

Sony should take out Wifi, add an extra controller, add sony bluetooth headset, and maybe a PSN card or something and keep it the same price.

Edit: Also an HDMI cable

Sony isn't nearly as stupid as you make them out to be. They aren't going to issue a price-drop in March when it would have a minimal impact and only lead the PS3 back into losing money. They're going to issue one in Q4 when the PS3 can afford a $100 price drop and still be borderline profitible, it will have the greatest impact, and they'll be able to combine it with the release of Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, Gran Turismo 5 in Europe, and God of War III in America.
