14 months ago my prediction was that Wii would surpass 50% marketshare by the end of 2008, however its clear that Wii only got to 49.5% by the end of 2008, .51% away from surpassing 50%.  



 

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Join the club. I said 50 - 55%. But Nintendo didn't ramp up as soon or much as I had expected. Still supply restrained too so, had they ramped up more we would have been right.

At least we didn't say 60% like John Lucas....

Indeed, you were wrong.
I won't laugh at you though, because you were much more right than I guessed you'd be. I would have thought around 48.5% by now, so I'm off by .5% more than you.

I've always said that 50 million and 50% would be pretty close, we'll see how right I am on that one.

Kudos for owning up to being wrong!

Wait for the December NPD next week. Maybe the Wii was undertracked by a million in NA.

Well if a big enough shift occurs that the numbers do end up my way then I can amend, but for the moment the data shows that I was wrong, if data comes along that is more accurate then we shall see.

Don't feel bad. .5% is not far off and you were completely right that Nintendo continues to dominate, Microsoft continues to do so-so and Sony is failing.
