@kwaad.....i know we shouldnt troll, but what you said is simply stupid.  You've spent "who knows how many hours researching (WWII)" yet you still believe america's use of two nuclear bombs killed millions.  It was a couple of hundred thousand, and it saved MILLIONS of lives because it ended a world war which was facing no apparent end (at least the US-Japan conflict)

Hmm, well I do believe that you killed a lot of people in Hisoshima and Nagasaki, but not in the millions.
Around 250-300.000 was the total direct death toll, with another 120-150.000 from injuries and/radiation sickness.
The impact politically was great though, as many countries thought it unnecessary to drop the bomb simply because they could.
It was a test, a test against a nation that nobody liked because of the atrocities the japanese had commited against other asians (did you know they killed 20 million in Manchuria?).

Japan would've folded, and the supposed "liberation" of pacific areas had nothing to do with the bombing of two cities that didn't even house any military at the time.
In fact, these were the only 2 major japanese cities which had no garrison at the time, and it's no coincidence that these were the targets, they were utterly defenceless.

PS: Anyone else getting sick of WW2 games where it's portrayed as if the US won the war single handedly? (Yes I know it's an American website, but still).

Haha yeah, even is resistance which is set in england you play as an american! We all know the brits are harder and tougher than anything these yanks have!

360 is inferior duhh.

As more time goes it will be proven more and more.

The PS2 was inferior to the Gamecube and X-box and we all know how that turned out. I mean being out first and becoming the lead platform because of it had nothing to do with the PS2's success. Developers all jumped at the chance to max out the potential of the X-box and Gamecube. They didn't care that each systems sales lagged behind the PS2. They built custom engines tailored to each consoles strengths right? I mean those two consoles are going to have 10 year life cycles, right? In spite of the fact that 3rd parties traditionally start ditching the third place console after two or three years right?

The most technically advanced console always over comes launching after its competitors to win the generation. I mean the Master System crushed the NES. The 3DO and Jaguar stomped out the SNES and Genesis. The N64 steamrolled the PS1 and Saturn. The X-box dominated the Gamecube and easily overtook the PS2. So the pattern is set, the PS3 while win this generation because superior tech. I mean it always happens that way. The Game Gear and Lynx showed that at against the Gameboy. The PSP is showing that against the DS as we speak.

Hus I have seen the light you are wise beyond your years my friend.

LMFAO

This is pretty much a UT3 PS3 version better then 360 version thread.  What the hell does you bs pointless post have to do with anything UT3 ?

@ starcraft , Mummelmann )

Initially the 2 A-bombs "only" killed 300-400k people , but the effects are still noticeable and people are still dieing from it .. it is believed ,that in total over 2 million people died from direct effects of the bombs , which is a higher number than people dieing in KZs , but I don't want to compare it to another because both actions were plain stupidity.

starcraft - Germany had already surrendered unconditionally at that time (that's why they "tested" the bombs in Japan and not in Germany) and the bombs merely were used to make the 'Tenno' do the same .. surely an unconditional surrender was needed , but as a person knowing the consequences of the bombs I think their methods were mistaken

America killed roughly 20% more than germany.

"Of the total deaths in World War II, approximately 85% were on the Allied side (mostly Soviet and Chinese) and 15% on the Axis side. One estimate is that 12 million civilians died in Holocaust camps, 1.5 million by bombs, 7 million in Europe from other causes, and 7.5 million in China from other causes.[37] Figures on the amount of total casualties varies to a wide extent because the majority of deaths were not documented."

Can you give some source where you got the "America killed roughly 20% more than germany" figure?

EDIT: Oh wait I found a graphical representation! Here, have some pie:

I don't know about now but after the bomb has fallen there were still people who get cancer/diseases and die of it and that is all because of the *radioactive thing that went out of the bomb.

*Sorry but I don't know how to say that in English.

Still I thik like Kwaad that dropping a bomb in a city that especially exists out of a population with a lot of innocent woman and children is a little sad.

And I feel sorry as Belgian that a big part of the ingredients come from Belgian Congo.

If I see what the Japanese did with my Chinese parents in law I am also glad that US dropped the bomb it give me some satisfaction. (Try to search information what Japan did in Nanking and you get shocked).

*Nuclear Fallout

I imagine the citys were chosen for the same reason why the Axis would bomb london civilians.  To gravely hurt the countries morale.  Had they just nuked a little city or largely military base its something that could of been more covered up and they might have continued assumingthe US didn't have that many Nuclear weapons and/or wouldn't use them on largely populated areas.  Using it on cities with a lot of people makes it more real, more dangerous and forced japan surrender quicker. (So quick many people argued the second bomb was unneeded.)

Also i would say there is a HUGE difference between killing your own civilians and killing other countries civilians to stop a war.

"""12 million civilians died in Holocaust camps"""

==> I thought it was """""only""""" 6 M ???
