Forums - Sony - Kaz says Little Big Planet sold 1.3 million-- oh noes! Did I win my bet?

no twest. you lost. kaz's event was on psn stats. there are 1.3m users online. this does not include offline players

This is not even close to what Kaz said. He said that 1.3 million is the number of units of LBP sold.

Guys just stop you won't convince each other anyway...

@ khuutra: IGN seems to disagree on that count though.

@ Fishy: doesn't that mean that many games should be either under or overtracked during the holidays? If this isn't that abnormal, wouldn't it be abnormal if only one game suffered from this?

Instead of assuming something, and taking a statement to heart, trying to figure out what is meant means that someone is defending something... He said 'played', he didn't say shipped. And even if he meant shipped, did that include bundles? And even if it did, how recent are the numbers? Since it's been Christmas/New years for the last two weeks, and we're getting back to normal, who knows?

Simply put, making decisions on more information, rather than less information seems fine to me. I just want to make sure that what was said was what was meant, or not...

So sue me. >_>

Making decisions on more information? I hope you aren't talking about yourself. Although since you know he said played I guess you must have been there.

Ign has him having said played, other sites have him having said sold. We don't know what he said. So no you aren't making decisions based on more information. You are as usualy making information on more bias. At best you are making a decision on a lack of wanting to know anymore. Rather than ask if he meant including bundles, said played, how recent it is you want to assume all the things that give the game the best sales. While other people want to find out how accurate vgchartz is.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Too many factors to call this comment either way.

He could be talking about connected to online, since he says 'playing'. That means that if you don't have an internet connection, and bought the game, you're not counted. They also could not be counting bundles. (On a side-note, FishyJoe, it doesn't matter how they'd want to say it, we have to go on what was said, not speculation).

Things against that could be used copies of the game. If someone is playing a used copy online, then they 'played' it, or if someone borrowed a copy they 'played' it too. But if people who borrowed or bought used didn't have online, then they didn't 'play' it.

I think that until someone actually says the words 'sold' or 'shipped', there is no real discussion to be had here, simply speculation on what was meant. So for the time being, we should take VGCs 1.7 million or whatever as it is.

Not really that many factors at all. Why would they release anything but the largest number for a game? Occam's razor should come into effect here. The simplest answer is they have shipped 1.3 million copies, and VGchartz over-tracked it by a lot. This is neither the first, nor last time this will happen. I think RE4 Wii is still somewhere around 300k over shipped figures given by capcom.

Yeah, but he didn't say 'shipped' so...

No he said sold...

which is Sony's word for shipped.

hm, shipped or sold? If this is true then 400k in UK alone seems unlikely.

By "sold" Sony means "sold to retailers".  Always.

So that 1.3 million unti number is the number stores have seen.

There have always been big discrepacies in the software numbers. It's not just one game. Software tracking is difficult at best at any time of the year.

Even if we make the assumption that is talking about online users
i really doubt that 1.3 million LBP users went online with only 1.8 million sales. It would have to be much higher sales than that to get that many online users especially with a game like LBP.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Kotaku, NeoGAF, and Gamespot seem to be pretty unified.

And this isn't going to be limited to LBP. That's just statistics.

Do we have sales data from more publishers?
