He could be talking about connected to online, since he says 'playing'. That means that if you don't have an internet connection, and bought the game, you're not counted. Things against that could be used copies of the game. If someone is playing a used copy online, then they 'played' it, or if someone borrowed a copy they 'played' it too. But if people who borrowed or bought used didn't have online, then they didn't 'play' it.
I think that until someone actually says the words 'sold' or 'shipped', there is no real discussion to be had here, simply speculation on what was meant. So for the time being, we should take VGCs 1.7 million or whatever as it is. |
Not really that many factors at all. Why would they release anything but the largest number for a game? Occam's razor should come into effect here. The simplest answer is they have shipped 1.3 million copies, and VGchartz over-tracked it by a lot. This is neither the first, nor last time this will happen. I think RE4 Wii is still somewhere around 300k over shipped figures given by capcom.
