Forums - Sales - Blu-Ray kinda sucks so far...

I hate the idea of updates too. What if I don't have access to online? Wall-E forced me an update, and the start up screen said that some Blu-Ray players have to load for 3-5 minutes before the movie would show. This isn't acceptable to a lot of people. Suppose I wanted to watch some Blu-Ray porn? 3-5 minutes is a lifetime!!

i'd rather watch pixelated internet porn because HD porn will only show bad boob jobs, unclean brazillians and ugly surgical scars.

i like the ps3's BD player capabilities. i haven't bought all that many movies for it because they're pretty expensive, but the ones that i have i don't regret at all.

@Coaster

Oh I know it man :D My roomate just got a 120h tv, and the thing is just unbelievable. Some movies I can't watch with it on because it feels too realistic xD

i was looking into this a little bit for my brother who's considering picking up a BD player.

PS3 does NOT decode (if that's the correct term to use) Dolby TrueHD but it does decode DTS-HD.

It decodes the audio and then streams it to your receiver PCM (?). I read somewhere that many receivers (maybe the ones older than 2008) does not decode DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD so it is up to the BD player to do it.

So, ps3 is actually pretty cool in that it does play HD audio and video. I'm also not too bothered by the firmware updates that are required because it's just making the experience better (BD 2.0 and DTS-HD being new additions).

Vacuums kinda suck so far

I just bout Sony S350 (including 3 free movie) for 219$CA during Boxing day to replace my Pioneer Dvd player dying and I'm very happy.

At 1st I was locking for PS3 but at 399$ it was just too expensive.

My only complain about BluRay is longer loading time and searching when skipping some chapter during playback.

Sony S350 is also very good to read all my backup DVD (DVD-R, DVD+R) I have many different brand and all my backup work perfectly!

mate,

If your dead set on upgrading to BluRay Standalone player I would wait.

I made the same mistake with my DVD player when it first come out. It lacks alot of stuff, like vcd svcd play back, but the worst part it only plays single layer dvd discs.

It cost me about $800

my new dvd player was like $100 and it does 5x the things my first original player does.

Try the Sony S350, it is under $300 everywhere and is touted as one of the best for the money. It plays all Blu-Rays, got one for my Dad for Christmas and he loves it.

second that. Got one for my parents for christmas and they love it. And so do I.
