I became Hardcore the day I beat Goldeneye on 007 agent.

From day 1, sir. Always have been, always will be. I suppose you could say my ultimate time was beating the whole Donkey Kong Country in one sitting and only losing 4 lives. Seriously, I played it that much.

The day that I discovered a strip poker game on my C64.

No, I guess that was when I became a softcore gamer.

When I started talking about the value of the American dollar while playing Monopoly. I was six years old and starting flame wars with that guy that wears the monocle. He still owes me revenue on my houses he landed on

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Hardcore in the sense of time consumed, it would have to be the day when my parents removed the "2 hours /wk" limit on my playtime

If you want to go with achievement, it would have to be when i cleared out Wario Land II, unlocking the Final Stage and the Flag Duck game

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Probably when i started playing online, Rainbow Six Vegas on the PS3. Back before PSN and Live I played single player or split screen games and I wasn't hardcore.

When I got a PS1 with FFVII

The first time I played a NES and the first game I ever played was Battle Toads.

Pacman taught people to run around in dark rooms munching on pills while listening to repettive techno music and for that I somewhat idolise him.

the day i beat super mario bros without dying and without using any warp pipes, i went through world 1 to 8, that was amazing day

Well, I personally consider myself as a "gamer" and I've been gaming since the late 80's (Played Super Mario Bro's For the first time back in 1989) . People who have to label themselves as "hardcore" are most likely the one's with social issues, the people who spent their lunch break in the library, you know, the kid who sat quietly in the corner and didn't talk to any girls, so now they try and build up their self esteem by labeling themselves as a "hardcore gamer".

i take the question to mean the first time you realized you were an addict... for me it was when i had marathon sessions of Quest for Glory III or Ultima IV, playing 8 hrs straight sometimes... oh that's sad =( or hell, maybe even the day i discovered TRON for my Atari...... oh how i lovvvvved that game @kyliedog, great answer XD "My name's ViZuNaRy, and I am a video game addict."
