Imagine the year is 2011.

You drive home from work in your 2012 Honda Accord. I know it's only 2011, but the 2012 models are already out.

You turn on your HOLO-TV and the newscaster, beamed into your living room states, "The Xbox 720 and Sony PS4 were announced at the Cannes Game Festival today. Both feature motion controls, small size, minimal graphic upgrades, and come packed with a collection of fun games anyone can play. They will both compete at retail for $199"

What is your initial reaction?

Does promising buying either of those systems result in myself getting a job I can come home from?  If so, that sounds like a killer app the U.S economy needs, since it looks like a LOT of peopel will be looking for work.  Spending $199+tax for this, sounds like a better investment than getting a Masters degree.

Wow people are like I'll go back to PC, or if it's got crap games like Wii, or blame Wii for ruining gaming... really guys? PC already has the gun controllers that replace the mouse so you can feel like you're carrying a real gun, if you're saying that all Wii has is crap games you're trolling cause there's excellent games on it if you'd actually play the damn thing, and it's not ruining gaming it's just adding a new element to it, much like consoles did over PC gaming, and the analog stick did over the normal console controller... things have to evolve and change or things become stagnant, you lose buyers, and people leave gaming without allowing for new people to come in... really guys grow the hell up...

You grow up and try to accept that everyone does not like the same games as you. Waggle does not add anything to games, sorry.

The thing is there's a game for everyone on the Wii, action adventure your thing? Zelda, Okami.  Like shooters? Medal of Honor Heroes 2 and Call of Duty WaW both with controls you can't get on a normal console.  Third person shooter? Resident Evil 4.  Light gun?  Medal of Honor Heroes 2, House of the Dead 2&3 and soon Overkill. Action game?  Mad World, No More Heroes, Bully.  Platformer? Mario Galaxy, De Blob. Fighting? Smash Bros Brawl, Mortal Kombat, Castlevania Judgement, Tatsunoko vs Capcom. Puzzle? Boom Blox.  Racing?  Mario Kart, Excite Truck.  Sports? Mario Strikers, PES 2008 with unique Wii controls that are not "waggle" it impoves gameplay, Tiger Woods, MLB Power Pros, Madden 2009.  Party? LOL.

Really man what more do you want?  There's a huge list of games right there, and most don't "waggle", see waggle was made by developers that don't want to go through the trouble of making unique Wii controls, but the guys that put forth the effort to make games that typically control better then any traditional dual analog game.  So please refrain from saying Wii adds nothing but waggle... it's trolling... as I just gave a list of games and many don't "waggle"... They use motion controls to improve the games not replace a button press with a motion...

OT:  BTW there already is a PS3 motion controller, there's a thread on it, it had a video of it hitting a ball around a room with a paddle, playing baseball, etc.  So kinda it's a good idea of what you could get with next gen to go along with frybreads question.

Can't respond to that, it would only get me banned. Good that you like those games.

Did Nintendo announce their new system?

Negative

I'll wait for the next Nintendo system that will support the HOLO graphics upgrade.  I don't have a HDTV now, so that is why no HDTV game system.  Now, if I had a HOLO TV, I wouldn't bother with a HDTV game system to run on it, and would stick with the Wii until a system came out to support my HOLO TV.

The wii have alot of crapp showel ware with alot of waggle due to bad developers.
i play games like metroid prime corruption and others that are quality titles.
I love the wii controls for fps games and use classic controller for racing games.
The wii have alot of quality titles but most fanboys of other systems only want to point out the crapp.
The wii will continou to get alot of showel ware due to low development cost but also alot of aaa titles.
i play on both 360 and wii but likes the wii better due to its controlls.
but not much can rival a racing game with an gamepad.

Its about the games not the hardware well ???????

First, I must say : I love my wii and I don't hate the other systems, in fact I may buy a 360 this year, and a PS2 and PS3 sooner or later.

What you describe is exactly "THE END OF GAMING AS WE KNOW IT" scenario that all the wii haters fear.

If that ever come true, which I don't think so, I my initial reaction would be... ¿where did all the hardcore games go?

I am sure the real scenario will be different, but if what you describe ever comes true I will become a RETRO hardcore player.

I will treasure my Wii to keep playing its good old hardcore games. If I have never bought the 360 and PS3 I will strongly consider buying either the xbox 720 or the ps4 for my wife and my kid, and expect this systems have Retro Compatibility so I can play the good old hardcore games using the traditional controllers.

I think the actual Wii haters will start hating his former favorite gaming brand (as some nintendo fans did) and maybe leaving gaming forever hating the Wii even more and everything they considered casual.

But I don't that would ever happen...

Frybread: answer to me honestly, please, do you really think this is the future of gaming?

 I'd stop gaming.

Why is it so hard to understand that cutting edge graphics and physics and AI are important to a lot of people? Or that some people just want a conventional controller with the Dual Analogs?

Give up the crusade. Some people just don't enjoy the experiences on the Wii after the novelty of Wii Sports wears off. I don't begrudge anyone that, and I wouldn't waste my time trying to change anybody's mind. Exhibit A in this discussion should be how badly SIXAXIS and games built around it were received, and how quick Sony was to backpeddle from it.

Nintendo can have their Blue Ocean, somebody still needs to cater to the core.

Don't worry he works at gamestop, he doesn't know that no means. hes used to forcing his opinion on people

@ OP: I would buy it if it had the same third party support that the HD consoles have right now, though i'm not a fan of motion controls, it's about the games, not the consoles.

I don't have a "crusade" there's a reason I own every console except for the 360 (for which I just use my friends most of the time) I love games, it's my hobby and I enjoy it, I don't see how it's so hard for "hardcore", "core", "HD gamers", "fan (or fanboy) of _____ (company)" or w/e you want to call yourself now a days, can't enjoy a good game no matter the platform it's on.

Just a couple of points to counter your argument.

  • Wii has proven it can use many of the same physics and AI engines that are commonly used in PS360 games.
  • Many games support the Gamecube and classic controller for those people that want a nice traditional dual analog game.
  • Some games use motion controls as a novelty much like the motion games that have come out in the past and had died out, but core titles use the motion and IR to make things better for the gamer, as things like The Force Unleashed on Wii could get gamers more into the action as you controlled your swings and it wasn't "waggle"
  • Sony back peddled from Sixaxis cause the gyroscope put into the controller was a cheap tack on to try to counter the Wii remote, once games tried to build around it and bombed due to it they backed away and apparently now there's a Sony "Wiimote" in the works that works much like a Wii remote with the motion plus attachment, the only thing is it will still lack IR support.

I was making a list of good games for the Wii cause Esa was trolling... motion and IR controls are not a gimmick... some companies like to think so and make games that reflect that idea but the good core titles use controls to improve gameplay, much like Capcom did with Resident Evil 4 on the Wii, you had it on GC and PS2 both with traditional controls but with Wii they improved things with making it so you can aim faster and with more accuracy.

@Ari I have no idea what having a job during college has to do with anything, funny thing is, MakingMusic (one of the most beloved mods on this site) works at Gamestop too I guess that makes him a pushy gaming bigot too...

PS: There are companies that cater to the core, Capcom, SEGA, and Nintendo say hi :)
