What could beat it?

FF XIII (PS3) definitely.
Dragon Quest X (Wii), definitely.
KH3, probably.
FFVs. XIII (PS3) possibly.
Fallout 3 (360), possibly.
Elder Scrolls 5, possibly.
Mass Effect 2 (360), doubtful.

KOTOR3, if it comes out.

Dragon Age Origins, no idea.
Super Mario RPG (Wii), oh yeah.

Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) will sell more, it will sell over 1m in Japan, and more outside of Japan

Was that one any good? I've heard good things. I only finished playing through the original, and I'm playing IV on the DS and it's a lot of fun.

Monster Hunter 3 isn't really an RPG

One of DQX or FFvXIII will outsell it. KH3 would as well...if it even comes out this generation.

It is, although you must need a good amount of tolerance for power leveling.
I especially liked the character attribute system, My first character was described as "romantic" and afterwords as "cruel" and "dim-witted". *sigh* wish I didn't delete that first character :(

That sounds pretty cool.

And yeah, grinding is kind of the MO for early Dragon Quest games. The first one was essentially nothing but that. Good thing the dialogue was so charming.

I think Final Fantasy XIII will do it on one of the consoles. If it doesn't that is pathetic.
