OK, before I say what it is I am saying I should probably clarify what I am not saying.
I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the wii, that the bottom is going to fall out of the market or that Nintendo is in any other way required to or motivated to launch early. Niether am I saying that Nintendo will make a decision that flies in the face of twenty five years of their policy.
What I am saying is this.
Recently a couple of posters have brought up a comment of Iwata's where he points out that gen 6 was effectively over before it began. PS2 was the sequel to the most successful console of all time, a console that had the strongest 3rd party support of all time, and PS2 came out 18 months before GC and XB. PS2 had all the developers in their corner, and had them pumping out high quality games before two of their competitors even launched. The gen was over before Nintendo and MS launched; they never had a chance.
Next gen Nintendo is likely to have the same high expectations as Sony did for PS2. They will likely have more 3rd party support than ever before in the company's history. So my question is would an early launch for Wii2 be strategically smart for Nintendo, and could they leverage such a launch into a PS2 style dominance of the market?
