Pixel Art can be fun.

I played most of the games on VC and I think Mario Kart 64 could use online multiplayer. Super Rtype could use a co-op mode. Streets of Rage 3 could use leaderboards. People just get behind the whole..."its a classic piece of software man...let it be man" argument for some reason.

As bigjon said, if it was cheaper...or arcade perfect ports of games like MK2, Street Fighter 2, Final Fight...and others that never made it to consoles...I'd be less critical.

I'm one of those 'lapsed' gamers too. Prior to the Wii the last console game I bought (for myself) was on Colecovision. Otherwise I just played PC RPGs.

While you are probably right I want to mention that Wii Virtual Console is the biggest rip off since 60 GB ps3 at 599.

First of all we are all paying money again for games that we own, have owned at some point. Secondly, none of these games come with any sort of new features but are straight forward roms.

And here is the saddest part of it all. There is a Gamecube Sega genesis emulator that runs on the wii of the SD card. That emulator actually makes games look better than official VC downloads. That's just sad...and it shows that VC has become a place where companies dump their old roms for a quick buck.

Xbox live arcade is the way to go for classic gaming but that takes time and effort on the gaming companies part...

Yeah, I don't own most of these games anymore, or never owned them in the first place. If you poo-poo paying for games which are impossible to buy nowadays, you are really missing the point altogether and I don't know what to tell you.

I was going to say arcade gamers. House of the Dead and Ghost Squad have done great numbers.

I didn't want to go there but every living person knows that emulators and roms exist for every piece of software that is on VC. While these roms may not technically be legal if you dont own the original...they are out of print hence they are not illegal either.

I am not saying that I don't want to pay for my games but...Sega is releasing the ultimate genesis collection for xbox and ps3 for example...and it will cost 29.99 and come with over 40 genesis games. Or price of 4 genesis VC console games. One can't argue thats not a rip off. On top of that the ps360 disc comes with achievements/trophies and imprved visuals.

I am not saying its a bad service to offer these games...I bought over 15 games already. Jsut that its a rip off. Oh and also...the VC classic controller sucks for holding in your hands and gamecube controller sucks for these games. Luckily I have a ps2 to gamecube adapter...

Ok wont bitch anymore.

The VC would factor into my decision to buy a Wii, but I would like VC more if it offered more games that were never released in the US or that were released in the US but not on the most popular consoles. I would like to see Emerald Dragon, Snatcher, Magical Popful Mail, Lunar I and II, and maybe Policenauts be a part of VC as they've never been released in the US before.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

I don't know which systems you owned but I had all 4 for my sega CD at some point of my life.

There's a difference between "morally justifiable" and "legal". You may be able to justify downloading ROMs of out-of-print games in a classroom theology discussion, but you will never be able to claim that it's legal so long as the copyright on those games hold up, and they will not be part of the public domain for a very long time.

Once you bring up "why should people pay when they can get for free, albeit illegally" you've already forfeited your entire point.

No, we are not getting ripped off, Sega is just offering a much better deal. A rip-off would be what it would cost to actually buy the original carts. In that perspective, the Virtual Console games are generally a steal. The Sega collection is simply a much more fantastic deal, assumedly because Sega wants more money from the HD crowd.

You haven't made any point here, and you didn't address the point that many people (and most Wii owners are Wii-only owners in terms of current-gen hardware so they don't have alternatives) have never played these games before. There is no reason to change them, there is no reason to not sell them for a reasonable price, and there is definitely no reason to complain that "we are all paying money again for games that we own, have owned at some point" because that's a fabrication.

@Khuutra

How about this... Its a huge rip off for people that have owned those games before. People that have never heard of them or play them before can justify spending that much...and rightfully so as they are great games.
