We recently spent some time talking with a Sony rep, who had an interesting anecdote when broached upon Killzone 2. Since this is not an official statement by the company or the developer, the anonymity of the representative is being respected

“It would be a lie to say Sony has not invested heavily in Killzone 2 and each individual at Guerilla games has worked even harder to satisfy any expectations kept by the company and their loyal community. I do see the game breaking a barrier with a huge variety of groups and expect it to see sales as good as Metal Gear Solid 4 if not beyond it.”

MGS 4 is at 3.74 million at this site, so they'll need quite a good opening to get to that. (so they need to do better than R2, MS2 and LBP openings in any case).

A fable II opening would be the least they should aim for.

I wanna say no but it's possible. Sony put an assload of money into this game, I'm pretty sure theres gonna be a formidable marketing campaign regardless of financial situation, and they seem to have effectively disconnected it from the first installment.

I don't care if this game outsells Wiifit and is made by god...MGS4 will be a better game. I know that's a bit off topic but when I see the acronyms "MGS4" somewhere I need to comment and big the game up as the best there has ever  been.

This site misrepresents the sales of both MGS1, MGS2 and likely MGS4 by large numbers. Do not trust this site for sales numbers of MGS games. Konami has announced long ago that MGS2 had sold over 7 million units on the ps2 alone and over 8 million including all releases, and MGS1 has sold over 6.6 million units. It is unlikely that either of them have a million + new units sitting on shelves 7 and 10 years after their respective release dated.

MGS4 is most likely around 4+ million now.

Possible, but unlikely. Maybe of the high-end PS3 bundle included KZ2 as a pack-in.

Boycotting shooters, especially on the PS3. I am not buying...
