ah i apologize, I don't think those are ps3 shipped numbers, just estimates given out by microsoft. How are we supposed to compare shipped numbers when we don't even have them?

FYI: VGC says that (in America) the Playstation 3 had 41.9% growth, YOY vs. last year. So December NPD *may* not be as robust as VGC is tracking. That, or Sony's quote of 40% is lower than actuals.

Sony's numbers will be released later this month.

Honestly MS are guessing PS3s shipped numbers based on targets of 22.5 million shipped by end March and working backward. The fact is, they may be up to a million out. VGC data shows PS3 has sold (not shipped) 3.7 mill. I suspect PS3 shipped figures will be 4 to 4.5 mill.

NPD Dec ended Jan 3, VGC also includes Canada and Latin America though. He also said nearly 40%, so maybe a bit less than 760k, but I already rounded down a bit too.

 

yea they might have it barely undertracked, it'll probably reach around 800-820k after the the newest data comes in.

 

Yeah it's just a little undertracked but nothing major, ioi (or rather Brett lol) will hopefully fix the data sometime soon, though he hasn't fixed the data for a lot of NPD numbers before, so IDK.

NPD and Sony are just the US, VGC is all of Americas, which if I remember right the rule of thumb used here is 1.1x the US numbers or something like that.
