well not sure what all SCE includes. If it is just hardware I could see them doing that. But they will still make games becuase they make a profit off of games.

So why would anyone care if they no longer make hardware, you still get their games.

and so no bashing of me, i could care less if PS3 lives or dies. i'm just trying to be a realist and not blindly assume everything will be peachy and no changes

Why would they still make games if they stopped making hardware? and im just talking about the gaming division. Personally I don't think they are going to axe the gaming division.

why would they STOP making games?  If your making money off your games you keep making them.  Their games aren't selling because they are on the PS3.  they are selling because people want to play those games.  Would you have not bought Heavenly Sword, or GT4, or God of War or whatever else sony games there are.  (I'm not too familiar with them all.) if they were on the Wii or 360.

Or do you only buy Sony games because your buddies with Sony and wna tto put money in thier pocket and don't actulaly play them

Thats a lot of sony to go around.

Why would they axe SCE? The only thing they lose money on is ps3 hardware and R&D. At worst, they'd just stop all R&D (except on things that would decrease the costs of the ps3 and PSP) and try and curb ps3 system sales (though they're basically curbing themselves at the moment, as sales at $399 are drying up).

Their studios seem profitable enough. LBP will soon break 2 million, Resistance 2 just broke a million, MotorStorm 2 will soon break a million, Socom will probably break a million soon after it's European launch (keep in mind this was also released over the PSN), and Killzone 2 will probably break a million within a month of release. White Knight Chronicles had the highest opening of a ps3 game in Japan after MGS4, and it's looking to have the highest second week sales of any ps3 game in Japan, including MGS4.

Outside of ps3 hardware, SCE is doing very well. No need to get rid of the whole division when they could just tone down the part costing them the most money.

Hell, they could probably outright stop manufacturing ps3s for awhile, given the large quantities already in stores. They manufactured a LOT for the Holidays (hence the major losses last quarter compared to the previous quarter), but they just haven't been selling.  Our stockroom is overloaded with the things.

Can't agree more.

If they shut down the PS brand. The Blu-Ray will take a really hard hit from that.

I doubt they will be stupid enough to do that to cause the chain reaction.

They invested all those money into the PS3 and close it when it's soon to be profitable? What kind of a business mind is that?

I believe SCE will be safe 85%.

I was thinking the same thing today. However if we think about it that way, what big and unprofitable products could they stop selling which have no repercussions?

Any choice Sony makes will be bad for the short/medium-term prospects of the company, they can just hope it will help them survive the recession.

I'd still bet on them keeping the PS3, but there's a Catch 22 between not cutting the price and too low sales which can hamper future profit (look at the latest Others sales down almost 30% year-on-year). No easy answers here.

Yes the future years will be hard but SCE will survive this.

This is the best time for SCE managements to learn the lesson.
And I hope they really do learn the lesson and do better next gen.
