I thought this game was vapourware? Are people still believeing it will come out? I hope it won't turn out like too human. I was hoping this game would be released end of 08 along with splinter cell conviction...another game that's dissappeared completely.

Remedy my friend dont make vapourware.

Just because KZ2 or FF13 is in development for decades doesnt mean they are vapourware. It's just that some companies are exceptionally intricate. (or maybe some companies have less employees to. ;).

so, are people expecting this game to be released at the end of 2009? It would be hard to imagine it being pushed back to 2010...If it turns out to be a good game then it might be a decent year for the 360 with mass effect 2 and alan wake coming.

This was one of my most anticipated games back in 2006 but now that I'm looking back at those screenshots and videos the game's graphics just don't impress me anymore (though I'll admit the vistas certainly look nice). Maybe back in 2006 they were jaw dropping but by today's standards they are ordinary.

Can they release this already?! I've been waiting for 3-4 years on this now! Looks great but I think a rig upgrade needs to be applied first...

I'd like to know what games already out that look as good as the screenshot above? Thats gameplay. Best graphics this gen will be out of Heavy Rain, Alan Wake and Kingdom Under Fire 2 by the end of 2009. Oh and yes Alan Wake is looking like Autumn 2009 according to Remedy.

Also I wouldnt worry about the quality. Remedy dont make crap games.

Heavy Rain and Alan Wake aren't even in the same ballpark. Heavy Rain blows Alan Wake out of the water. I was over at IGN looking at screenshots for both and so far I think Heavy Rain is in its own league. Even Resident Evil 5 looks better than Alan Wake. I also think Gran Turismo 5 will probably have the best (or among the best) graphics of this generation.

The fact that Alan Wake has been in development so long gives me an uneasy feeling about the game. Sure it takes time to make a quality game but Remedy have already said that if the development went smoothly the game would probably be out by now. Alan Wake is a story of too little too late - releasing screenshots and a trailer only to not even be close to releasing the the game 2 and a half years later is a mistake.

Fanboy goggles aplenty. The PC version of Alan Wake will definately own Heavy Rain. The 360 version is supposed to be same detail just in a lower res, so it should be interesting. Seriously man Remedy know what they are doing. Res 5 looks nowhere near Alan Wake. People thought these shots were cgi until recently.

All following screenshots are all taken from ingame gameplay moments. All confirmed. As you can see It's incredibly hard to choose. I will say look at the detail on Wakes jacket in the 3rd pic for A.Wake. That is insane clothing detail ingame.

Heavy Rain

Alan Wake

Kingdom Under Fire 2

Like I said fanboy goggles. Every shot is confirmed known gameplay footage. No cgi or mocked up imageary.

@pbroy

Thanks for posting this! I try it keep an eye on the Alan Wake forums every now and then, but this post it a great catch up.

I pray this gets a 2009 release. I try not to think about it too much.

haha, fanboy goggles? perhaps you should take your own goggles off then :)

Also, I did say that the environments and vistas in alan wake look nice but overall the game has nothing on heavy rain. If you look at some other screenshots, alan wake is full jaggies and the character model themselves really let the game down. Also, there is a screenshot of a car's bonnet open and the engine itself is FLAT lol...

I don't know how to imbed screenshots but I'll give links:

Heavy Rain: http://au.ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/811232/heavy-rain/images/heavy-rain-impressions-20081211033058054.html

I also think these screenshots of Heavy Rain speak for themselves:

I'd be lying if I said that Alan Wake is an ugly game or w/e, it certainly does have its moments where it shines but when taking both sets of screenshots into account (not just the ones you posted but all) heavy rain is just in a different class. However, they both aren't due out until the end of this year so hopefully they'll both get even better but at the moment I think Alan Wake needs alot more work to be able to claim that it is visually superior superior or on par with Heavy Rain. No doubt when both games are released we'll probably see a consensus develop...

Heavy Rain = QTE game - It's going to look really good because the scenes are mostly staged/static.

Alan Wake = Open world - Living breathing world. I hope we see that tornado rip through like in the 2005 tech demo. It's so impressive how good this game looks based on it's scale.

Tech Demo: http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/6523 - Add 4 years development and improvement on top = Win
